Weird Form Sizing Problem

My form looks great, displays corectly and even prints correctly on 7 of 8 PCs, including mine.

The single PC in the bunch that does NOT display correctly is much too large on that one screen. A print of the single page form on that PC takes 4 sheets to print. It also prints very, very heavy black lines across the entire form exactly 1 inch apart.

The rogue PC is set tro the same screen resolution and DPI as the others, and is the same size monitor.

Layout for print is the same as is fast lazer printing. I have tried them on all combinations possible to no avail. I even sent the print for the rogue to the same printer as the others- still not correct print, either.

I have checked all the display properties to be sure they are the same and can find no reason for the differences in the form and the print.

Anyone have any ideas at all? Ever run into this problem yourself and found a fix?

I am going crazy here............

TIA,
Dave

Look for any other differences between the systems.
  • Do they all use the EXACT same hardware
    • CPU
    • Monitor
    • Graphics Card
  • Do they all have the same VERSION of the Same OS
    • Version ID
    • Service Patch Revision Level
  • Do they all use the same VERSION of Access
    • Version ID
    • Service Patch Revision Level
Keep on looking until you find the difference you are looking for.

ALSO-
After this PC opens the form, it is too large and needs to be resized to make the other PCs display corectly...

Are all of the PCs going to share the same form from a network drive? This is not the best idea and can lend itself to problems in the long run. There are experts in this forum that can proivide much better detail regarding this than I can.

The fact that you say that the form resizes leads me to wonder if a difference in the settings for or version of Access is contributing to the problem that you are having.

Is this 2007? Bob Larsen and I ran into an issue where we were all seeing a different thing on the screen (2007). In my case, I was able to change the bg color of the OPs form and all symptoms went away.

Using 2003- but will try the background color and see what happens :)

After much research and various efforts I discovered the cause of this problem-
I am using the form resizer and Access 2003-
Most of the folks using this application have dual monitors-
This particular user has their larger screen set for ultra-high resolution-

The form resizer is reading the resolution from the larger screen instead of the smaller screen where this app is run. This is what is causing the forms to be much too large.

Another problem I was having is when printing the form- it printed very large, bold black lines on this single PC. The cause of that and the fix were really simple: Switch from XP view to classic view and the problem is gone. XP uses a different way to print the backgrounds that was having a very hard time with the forms.

I am working today on the form sizer and will post again when that is corrected or unsolvable, unless someone here has found a solution to the resolution problem with two screens set at different resolution?

TIA,
Dave

That's good to know. I always use Classic Windows so I imagine I don't see a lot of stuff. I use dual monitors at home and will experiment with the other. Post if you find a solution.

So- a recap of the problems w/ solutions
1. A form was printing with heavy black lines exactly 1 inch apart
Switched customer from XP settings to Classic setting

2. Using Jamies screen resizer was not working- prints were WAY to big and also printed way too big- it was reading the primary screen settings instead of the active screen
Found, loaded and tested a new [to me] form resizer that allows the customer to resize the form to their liking right on their desktops @ developershandbook.com

I am putting this one to bed- happy customers

Thanks,
Dave

Matbe this can save someone else a headache or two- as you folks have for me many times :)
