I'm sure you seen many variations of these:

IRC://ircchannel.ircserver.com:4545
Torrent://torrentfile.whatever.com

etc.

These are "operators" that are added to Windows, called from any web browser and can generate some call to an application (most for local apps). What are these commonly referred to? I can't seem to find the correct term for a Google search.

Thanks much,

Fuse

If you want a definition they are indeed protocol's and are part of the application layer of the OSI model. They essentially define which application will 'open' the file who's location is defined by the URL. The rest of the OSI model contains all the other protocol's (within layers) used to deliver the content.

You probably have some right on your computer. The fonts named "Wingdings" or "Dingbats" contain a lot of these types of characters.
Chances are you can open one of these fonts using a paint program with the text tool... Try them at 60 to 72pt size.

They were only trying to spam the forum. They had their links removed once before. They readded them to post again. The nuisance is gone now. :D
