I've seen this file in some DBs I've worked on. It is sometimes there and sometimes not. I guess I could look it up, but can anyone here tell me what the purpose of this thing is and why it sometimes appears and sometimes doesn't? There's a heck of a lot of objects of all types in it:

hey thanks Mick! I put 4 hidden boxes on one single form, and *that* triggered it. hmmmm.....interesting development quirk of access....

Sorry but how does that relate to your original post??

what do you mean, Mick? I was just pointing out that i must have activated that database file because I put 4 textboxes on a form by clicking the textbox icon on the menu bar. so obviously I initiated the wizard somehow. the people who answered (your link) say that the DB appears as soon as you initiate the form wizard.

You must have use wizards enabled it will always show when adding any type of field Etc

yeah I know mick. that's what i was saying. I added 4 "fields" (the textboxes) and that's why I saw it. How do I *disable* wizards? I didn't know you could do that. if you disable them, does that mean they are stripped out of all the menus at the top of access?

Unselect UseControl Wizards use the down arrow to get more options on tool bar

thanks! I learned something today. =) cheers, Mick. Isn't that what they say in London? or is that a European culture thing?
