Hi,

Whenever I try to make changes to a linked table I get an error message from Access saying that is not allowed in this ISAM. I was curious as to what this ISAM is??

Thanks

Well, to us old-timers, ISAM is Indexed Sequential Access Mode, which is (originally) an IBM mainframe-class file organization. I guess it is trying to tell you that the operation you wanted to perform involves a link to an external file being kept in a format you cannot change through Access. I.e. it is not a native format of the Microsoft environment. 'Tain't the first time I've seen Access refuse to update a particular file format.

Pat, I use to use a Hex Editor on the MF that would allow me to update a flat file in place, BUT you had to know hex/EBCDIC, and you could really screw them up using it also... hee hee hee I know... What about DSAM, used that before also.
ACE some ODBC/OLE DB can not be updated, some you have to have the proper rights (will give that error also). What is the linked table you trying to update.

PAT, you are right, it used sectors I think and read and wrote in hardware blocks, but was not standard in any sense of the word. But saved my goat a time or two. Been to long for me, been out of MF for 9 years now (Ya, that huge UNIX box running Oracle apps is not a MF right).
