What is the use of a record selector in a form (1 Viewer)

The record selector displays the unsaved record indicator when a record is being edited.
Is there any use other than this ?

I've never found one, get rid of it if it's in the way.

If you are using a continuous or data sheet style form, you can use the record selectors to select multiple rows.
