I am a beginner and I have come across a question that maybe someone more experienced can help me with.
It seems one can create a form in one of two (basic) ways:
1) One can create a form off of a previously designed query or table
2) One can create a form and designate the tables he would like to call in the 'Data Source' field of the form.

My question is:
When should someone first create a query and then base a form on it and when should someone create the query in the data source of the form?

I look forward to your responses!

It doesn't really matter - whichever suits you better as a designer.

The auto created form has a basic layout which may or may not be what you want, but you can always change it - there will often be fields you don't want to display on a form so you can always delete them or change their visible property to false.

For me, I like having fewer things in the left toolbar. I try to build queries inside the forms if possible.

Good point. If you don't want your users to mess with your form queries, build them in your recordsource rather that as a query and distribute an ACCDE version of your db
