I'm running Access 2003 and am having a heck of a time writing a piece of VB code that will let me get into my database from an external program, and delete queries, forms, macros and modules from my database.

I say I'm having a heck of a time, because I don't seem to have a system.mdw anywhere on my computer.

Is Access 2003 different from earlier versions when it comes to the .mdw file? Or, where should I be looking for the .mdw file? Better yet.... is there even an .mdw file to be found?

If anyone can help shed some light on my headache, I would love to hear from you. Thank you in advance!

On my PC it is on:
C:\Document and Settings\myName\Application Data\Microsoft\Access

PS: Application Data directory was HIDDEN.

system.mdw is probably in c:\windows\system32

its not advisable to modify system

better to create and use a new mdw file if you need one

mstef and gemma,

Thanks for your replies - I appreciate them! I did a Search on my entire hard drive and when I didn't find any .mdw file, decided to ask on this forum. Shouldn't a search have shown something on my hard drive? I'm still perplexed!

Hi, folks....

I absolutely do not seem to have an .mdw file anywhere on my machine. I've never heard of this and am having headaches figuring it out. Access runs fine on my machine, but no .mdw file ?????

try advanced search to include hidden and system files

i'm sure there is one somewhere

could even be on a network

---------------
try from desktop

start, run, wrkgadm

that might show you the current location and setting

Gemma,

I'm beginning to think it might have something to do with how my Ofice products were installed..... I just tried running wrkgadm and that wasn't found either!

I'm just wondering how my Access 2003 has been running.......

Thanks for your assistance....I appreciate it.

If you open up Access, click Tools, goto Security, and choose Workgroup Administrator, it should give you the path of the .mdw file that you are currently joined to.

Edit: Just saw that you tried to run Workgroup Admin, that is strange that it can't run, but Access functions.

Edit to the Edit: I just tried Gemma's suggestion on my machine and I cannot run wrkgadm from the run box either. Try my suggestion from within Access.

Gemma and KernelK,

I finally found my .mdw file.... it was in \Program Files\CommonFiles\System

What a pain in the ***, wouldn't you say? Now I'm going to try and find the wrkgadm program.

Don't we just love Microsoft?????

Gemma,

Thanks for your assistance - it's appreciated!!!

wrkgadm may be a A97 utility only, for when the workgroup administrator was separate from Access - its probably all integrated now, as KernelK says.

I've not used workgroup security since A97
