OK....I am really new to access. This is my first database--that is my own -building from scratch. ((I am all self taught so far (meaning no offical class or training)...just things I've pick-up using access. )))

So my problem is I have made my pretty little form to add data easily. However, I can't add anything...I can't change any field nor can I ad new records. The little arrow with the star at the bottom left of the screen is grayed out. Even when I go into the actual table I can't add anything new. Plus I can't add anything to existing records.

What I have already tried---- I looked at the locked field in properties and no locks....I have the form set for data entry.

I created it with 4 excels files that I imported to access. Then I did a query and brought all the data into the query and based my form off of that. I created with Radial Inner Joins with prop_ID as the common field.

The only thing I didn't do was set a primary key. Could that be the problem? If so, how do I change it now?

Thank you in advance for any help given. Break it down for me, though, because I do not know what I am doing!!!!!!

I have looked on this forum to see if this has already been posted and I couldn't find anything. I APOLOGISE if this is a re-post topic.

I have always used two forms for records. One to enter new records and a second with a search function to update or change records.

For the new records, set the Form Property DATA ENTRY to Yes. Every time you open this form it will be on a new blank record.

I double checked and I do have the Form Property set to Yes on DATA ENTRY and below that on the Record Locks it is NO

Plus all of the fields are unlocked as well. No OBVIOUS reason for the lock.

If you can't even add directly into the table, the problem is not with the form. Is it a local Access table or linked to something else?

Yip....It does on fact open up to a new blank record with no data...but I can't type into it?!?!?!?!

Well...I think it is a linked table. I made copies of all the orginials and stuck all the raw data in a folder and then created the datatbase from there.

All the data comes from 3 Excel tables and 1 other Access database

Oh and I guess I should have stated that I am using Access 2000

Is there a little arrow next to the table icon in the database window?

No...no arrow. But I know what you are talking about --I have seen those before. What are they and what do they mean?

That means the table is linked. It's either in another mdb, an Excel file, SQL Server, or whatever, and you just have a link to it in the mdb you're in. If you don't see that, the table is local. I don't think I've ever seen a local table that you couldn't add records to. Can you post the db, or does it have sensitive info in it?

You can try; you attach them through the "Go advanced" screen.

You don't get any error or anything when you try to add a record? I was thinking of a referential integrity problem, but that should throw an error.

Can you create a new db and import the table into it, take out the existing records and post that here? I'm stumped on why a table wouldn't allow additions, and it may help to play with it.

Update

OK.....I have new information

I found that in one of my tables I had a partial record started. It was "stuck" in the the new record of that table. I got rid of that and the star and arrow at the bottem went black.

So now....I can add to all the tables...but I checked the queries. None can be added to. All have the very first record all blank and grayed out and I can't delete. It seems as if that is the new record row and it is locked up.

Does any of that make any sense at all?!?!

I will be leaving work shortly so I wont reply again until Monday.
