I have been importing .Dat files for ages in A97, now migrating to AXP it says you cannot import the file.

If i rename it to TXT all is fine (in XP) but i dont want/need/should have to/ etc need to rename it! .Dat is a normal text file format...

Anybody know a workaround (without renaming to .txt?!)

Judy,

Thank you for your response, but at the risk of repeating myself.... I was hoping for a way ...

without renaming to .txt?!

Hi, again;

I thought I did give you an option with Pat Hartman's answer. See below.

fasternu, an update to Jet a few years ago now prevents this. You either need to modify the registry to force Jet to accept all extensions or you need to rename text files to an extension that Jet finds acceptable.

One of Microsoft's truely STUPID (are you listening out there Bill?) ideas.

Sorry to get back to this only now, but i have been pretty bussy....

Anyway adjusting the registry on every machine is not an option. Further more we are not allowed to regedit (which is a pain anyway), Guess i am stuck doing the rename :( Thanx
