I am implementing windows 7 soon at work and i have a test machine i have been working with. At my business we use the syncing of offline files in this way. Currently with XP all of our users My Documents are stored on the server and mapped to the users my documents on there PC

I have been searching for this in windows 7 and have had no luck. the only thing i have found is they want you to map a network drive and use it that way.

Does anyone know if what i am currently using in XP works in 7.

Thanks

Windows 7 uses a new way of My Documents in that it is a LIBRARY where you can add multiple locations which all make up My Documents (or more specifically DOCUMENTS) in the Explorer.

I know what you're talking about as to mapping My Documents to the server as we do it at work and I used to do it at home as well. But it is very different on Win7 and I'm not sure what group policy you would need to implement in order to ensure no local storage of documents into the Documents library.

You might want to post this question directly to Microsoft Answers in the Windows 7 area.

Windows 7 has whats called libraries. We are using it here with AD and have had no problems mapping their documents to their network drive

In AD there is a homedrive option. You can map the users homedrive directly to their network path and it will give them that drive and files no matter what computer they log in to. We use the letter H: so everyone knows that their h: drive is their documents folder now.

Yes, we do that too. But Ray - have you done this in Windows 7? It is quite a bit different given the new structure of the Library.

Yup We are running it right now for the whole district. No issues

There is also the folder redirection option that you can do with AD. Works pretty good. Good for giving desktops and other stuff too!

There is still a fake folder at the Windows XP location that windows automatically remaps to the My Documents library. You can set any location to go to this library, and even programs that save to this "fake" folder will automatically remap to the library.

what do you mean by a "fake Folder"

and by XP location do you mean the same location of the my documents folder on windows 7 and windows xp
