socialized medicine

I will have to re-read the HCRA but I don't believe Tri-Care is going away for active or retired military personnel because that would mean Congress would be throwing themselves in the same pool. This was covered in a health care seminar that I attended.

Surely you jest. Congress has a far superior coverage than the military, and after only 4 years of service.

By that I meant federally sponsored health-care. I did a quick search and the reform affects private employers. The military along with the government is a public employer.

Let me know if you find out more, as all I have to go on is media and we all know how much we can trust them.

A Google search on oBamacare tricare produces lots of hits , whether they help or not only those involved can say. My quick read of a few suggests that it may be that this will give the authorities the opportunity to make changes that they wanted to.

50 years is a long time and many of us have suffered from changes to conditions in that time and as my old headmaster said on his welcoming address, "who ever told you that life was fair was a liar"

Seems fickle for a country which prides itself on democracy yet does not trust the intentions of elected officials.

Health care costs are increasing at a rate much higher than inflation. Obamacare is an effort to provide health care coverage for every one. But the devil is in the details. A lot of static thinking in a dynamic world.

If the Doctors are squeezed financially, many doctors (age 60 plus) will retire early. There will not be enough new doctors to replace them. Today, many doctors are dropping Medicare patients. It is the insured people subsidizing the Medicaid/Medicare and the uninsured patients (Mr. Obama demonized the Insurance industry). There will be shortage of Doctors in a few years.

The illegal immigrants coming to USA every year gets care at the Hospital Emergency at no charge. There is no way of predicting the resources needed for this category.

Taxes will go up (only around 50 percent of people pay Federal, State & Local taxes now) to cover the new folks coming on to the health system.

The President can pick and choose what parts of new healthcare law he wants to enforce.
Let us accept it, USA is moving towards more government control of our lives. It will take several years to see how these things will play out. There will be many unintended consequences.

That's a grim outlook but probable true. I will have to accept the physical reality of it, but will never accept the senselessness of it. I know a way to cut lots of that expense but neither the republicans nor the democrats have the intestinal fortitude to do. It is called a DMZ, it works in Korea and it would darn sure work on our borders.

Our rates increase double digit percentage points every year. The least expensive renewal we have ever had was 14%. I currently cannot afford my company's health insurance so I am on a state plan for myself and my daughter which is actually better health coverage than my employer's plan.

I think this move is a step in the right direction.

I agree. I work for a hospital and I have seen our rates go up and up and up. 10ish years ago, the employees of the hospital received free medical care. Now, that same care for a family is ~$400/month. I know $400/month might not seem like much to someone not in a group plan paying $800+/month, but going from 0 10 years ago to $400 now is scary.

It got so bad that they introduced a cheaper plan that is more use-oriented. It has saved me a lot of money, but the way it does so is by convincing you not to go to the doctor. If you know the doctor visit is going to cost you $300, you're only going to go if it is something very serious.

No offense, but I think you should have done a bit more research before you made this thread. There's nothing wrong with wanting to complain about the Supreme Court ruling if you do not like it, but as you only made claims and assertions and did not back them up with any evidence, I have to assume there are many inaccuracies in your claims.

You say you only have the media to go on, but that is not true, you can read the exact language of the act online here. I know it is very onerous to try to find answers in such a technical and lengthy document, but listening to commentators spew their hatred about it and then further spreading that misinformation contributes to the problem.

FWIW, I don't recall hearing or reading anything about reductions in veterans health benefits as part of the ACA, and I can't imagine any politician suggesting such as it would be political suicide. Most arguments floating around start with "Nothing will change for people 60 or older", or some other age that is around 60.

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LIKE THIS.

At age 76 when you most need it, you are not eligible for cancer
treatment

What Nancy Pelosi didn't want us to know until after the healthcare
bill was passed. Remember she said, "pass it and then read
it!!." Here it is!

Adam,
No offense taken, in fact I am encouraged by your post. Secondly I posted about the cancer thing before I looked at your post. I apologize for the way it posted; I wasn’t yelling it was copied. Secondly, you are right I haven’t done much research as I didn’t think I had to as I was 98% sure that it would be shot down. Thirdly, I was so discouraged after the decision as I see the Obama Doesn’t Care Bill as the final nail in the coffin of the USA as a free nation. I am also beginning to see what some pundits are saying that US doesn’t have a two party system, or three branches of government any more. If this was such a good thing then let the politicians have to be on it. Fortunately I don’t have many more years to live but I grieve for my grandchildren. What this approval by the Supreme Court has said is that the government has the right to make us buy anything they want. Muchelle O. is already trying to tell us to eat more broccoli. Bloomhead whats to tell us how much soda to drink.

The NHS may not be a perfect system, far from in in fact, but Im still glad and proud that we Brits have such a system!

I can't comment on your NHS as I know nothing about it. In fact I ask on this forum how people liked their NHS and got only a few responses. If you like yours I am glad for you. As for our Obama Doesn't Care Bill, it is terrible.

Brian,
Yes, I did, and the impression I got is that they were glad for the system in (GB) but they said it had its faults.
NOW the big question I wuld like to ask. Do Brits feel that their health care system, is as good, the same, or worst that what we have had in the US, up until now? Please don’t anybody read into this as prejudice on my part. Up until now I have never give much thought as to what your system did. I am just looking for honest answers, not a debate. I feel I can get a better opinion here than if I just listen to either the liberals or conservatives in the US. I haven’t heard much from Australia.

I don't want to duck the question but as I have no experience of your system I can't really know, plus I did not get answers to certain questions I asked such as after my wife had been diagnosed with myelofibrosis what effect would that have on an insurance based health cover, would cover have been continued for the 19 years she lived, and would it have covered her later illnesses, heart deases, COPD, and finally breast cancer, her stay in the hospice for palliative care and then medical care at home in her final months.

I believe that our system is best in a civilised sosciety were we care for each other, however it is open to abuse and needs tweaking to cut that down. It should be simple to cut out most of the abuse by foreigners , drunkards and those who refuse to take responsibility for themselves, eg obese and smokers.
