Hi, I'm working on a legacy database using Access 2013 and macros. Tabbed windows management is making me crazy! When I have multiple windows open during development the window tabs become inaccessible on what appears to be a random basis. When I'm working on a macro for instance I'll go to save it and not be able to get to the tab to do the save. It's the same with forms and queries. I have the options set to tabbed windows and didn't have this problem in 2010. The forward and back arrows at the top are useless, they don't scroll. Every time I need to save an object or go back to it from another open window I have to go to the navigation window and re-open it in design or form view. Is there a new setting I'm missing, or anything I can do to stop the madness?? Thanks! :banghead:

I won't be able to update for another several years - international company where everyone has to do everything the same way all the time regardless of whether or not it makes sense. Productivity appears not to be a priority. (We just got bought out and I'm still grieving)
Thanks for the information, I was hoping this was just a setting thing and not a bug, but considering all the other problems I'm sadly not surprised.
Thanks Paul. I've tried that and it puts me back in the mode of having to open the windows from the navigation panel. Unless I'm missing something and there's some way to navigate directly from one window to the next in design mode?

I'm not sure what you mean. I would have assumed you were opening from the nav pane anyway, and it was the tabs that made things hard to manage. I don't like that view, so I have it off in all my apps.
Oh I see I wasn't clear. What I typically do while developing is have the affected table, whatever macros I'm working and at least one form to check the results of the macro open. All the window tabs are visible at the top of the screens. I move from one to the other by clicking on the tab for the window I want instead of constantly going back to the nav pane ( I have to scroll up and down a lot this is a really big application.) If I have too many windows open to show at once there's an arrow that lets me scroll over to the one I want. This is the part that's wonky in 2013. Sometimes it works and I can scoll back and forth to the windows I want, then suddenly I can't get to the window I need. Sometimes re-opening the window from the nave pane doesn't give me the window tab - I'll have the window open but the tab isn't visible and I can't save the changes.
I'm fairly new to Access, my company arbitrarily banned FilemakerPro and gave us Access as the only approved small-group dataase, so I'm doing a lot of catch-up. I don't know how to save the macro or form after making changes when I'm not using tabs - maybe that's the way to go to avoid the aggravation

Ah, sorry. A few general thoughts/options:
- You should be able to save an item in tabbed or window view via the save icon in the title bar.
- You can use custom groups in the navigation pane to keep related items together
- You can use the search feature at the top of the navigation pane to quickly narrow down the items displayed.
OK I've been using overlapping windows for a few hours, the interface is definitely consistent. I wouldn't have thought to switch over since the tabs had been working so well for me in 2010, Adapting to new versions of tools is a survival skill! Again, thanks for the help
