It is important to prevent children from learning about what happens to people an administration hates. Anne Frank is their future if their parents don't toe the progressive line that white people are evil, racist, oppressors so they must be punished or people with guns will come and take away their daddy and maybe their mommy too.

The dystopian future comes when, like in the book Fahrenheit 451, books are burned for "seditious" knowledge - such as simple romance between two different people. It comes when people are told what to think and what to not think. It comes when "right-think" becomes dogma in the book 1984. There are forces out there who want to control your mind - and they are succeeding more often than they used to.

Right and left are different in the US than in Europe although in the US they are merging into a uni-party given the bills that get passed. In any event the Nazi's were Fascists which at its heart is private ownership with government control which is exactly what we see happening here with the Twitter files. The government behind the scenes is telling social media companies who should be allowed to speak and what they can say. Just because the government isn't doing it directly doesn't mean it isn't a first amendment violation. The government is actively trying to destroy the fossil fuel industry so their dream of renewable energy can be imposed on the public tomorrow. Cancelling the pipeline from Canada that had been fully approved and which was in the process of being built is a great example. F*** the people and companies who believed their contract with the government would be enforced. They are rich so they can afford to lose their investment. The harm in the meantime be damned. The ends justify the means.

The Left here always calls the Right Fascists but the reality is that it is the left that is trying to use private companies to impose its will on the people.

Books were burned it late 30s Germany. What is going on in Florida, and elsewhere is the functional equivalent of book burning. Autocrates can't handle the inclusion of different ideas because they might lose power. In addition, the manufacturing of a common enemy is a way of keeping people in line. I don't remember who authored this line, "Give me a child til he's 5 years old, the rest of his life his mind is mine", but sadly, it works.. I also note that the right seems to suffer from projection. They want to control the books in schools yet they claim that the left has some master plan of indoctrination, when they want to carry out that very thing. I believe that there is one thing missing from our educational system, instruction in Critical Thinking, something that the far right lacks. remember that one of the proofs of the idea that the election was rigged, came from a time traveling woman, who hears things in the wind. That was from Sidney Powell, one of the former presidents lawyers.

You make it sound like the left is an ultra organized group. I don't think that is possible. Who is the master mind behind this left? Do they have meetings, or is there a manifesto I can read? Who is in charge of the deep state? Is not compromise an integral part of democracy?

@jpl458 you are assuming that because this is happening now in Florida, you are assigning the action to right-leaning people. That is totally incorrect and you should know what "assume" means. It is the left that controls the educational system, not the right. It is the left that is trying to teach innocent children about sex well before they can actually comprehend it. Those are the books that should be removed from the library. I guess you didn't hear the 11 year old boy reading a book that described explicit sexual actions at a school board meeting. It is the left that is trying to convince children that they can choose their sex. We don't let children vote for a reason. We don't let them drink or smoke for a reason. We set their bedtimes and the food they eat for a reason. We don't let them drive for a reason. Yet, the left seems to think that it is rational to allow children to mutilate their bodies? THOSE are the people who are burning the books, NOT the folks on the right. The folks on the right are asking for sexually explicit books to be removed from the libraries. They are NOT suggesting they be burned. If parents want their children to read sexually explicit material, they can order it from Amazon.

The "environmental" lobby doesn't understand natural systems or why it is good for the forests to burn occasionally. After years of trying to put out all forest fires in Yellowstone, the management finally got wise and they are letting them burn unless they are a danger to something. Of course if you build houses in the forest, you should be aware of the risk AND insurance companies should not insure those homes against forest fires. The "environmental" lobby hasn't yet caught on to the pattern. Good year, lots of rain, lots of undergrowth. Bad year, little rain, undergrowth catches fire easily and then entire towns burn. Pacific Power used to use controlled burns to clear the brush in the power line paths to minimize the risk of out of control fires disrupting power. But the tree huggers don't like that so the state prevented it. I'm not sure if they woke up after the last batch of really bad fires but who knows.

Never had sex education all the time I was in school, not in class anyway. When did this start happening and at what age is it being taught. Is the left forcing kiddies change their gender, or just explaining that some folks are different?. My original point was, whoever it is that said they wanted to protect kids by taking the Diary of Anne Frank off the library shelf, won't do anything about the number one cause of death in young people, which is guns. So the idea of protecting kid as a reason seems pretty hollow to me. I hunted when I was younger and owned a lot of different guns, and was a stock maker, and repaired antique firearms that had wood problems. In my opinion if you have a gun you should need a license to own it, like having a driver license. I don't think the framers considered the assault rifle when then wrote the second amendment. All the guns back then were muzzle loaders,There were 13 States and all of them were mostly rural. Guns are made to do 3 things; punch holes in paper, punch holes in animals, or punch holes in people. They have no other use. Why does anyone need a clip that hold 30 rounds? Or an assault rifle. Someone once asked me, knowing I had several guns, which one I would use for personal protection. I told him I would take this trigger finger an dial 911.

And because someone loves and buys a Lamborghini, someone else should be free to have a full auto weapon because of his personal choice?

The other day I was watching the trial of Nikolas Cruz in Instagram. He killed 17 students, and injured another 17 including 3 teachers.
All the while, There was only one question in my mind. Why would he be able to have access to an AR-15 machine and fire 180 rounds of ammunition?

The same weapon was used in 2012 Colorado, leaving 12 dead 58 injured.

Those of us who live outside of States, will never understand why mass murder and mass shootings never end.
But reading this thread, I think I have the answer now.

It's only a mass murder machine if the user uses it that way. Recently in the US and Canada, a vehicle was used as a mass murder machine by driving the vehicle into a crowd of people. In the 1980s, in my home state, some pyscho, who was never caught, used Tylenol as a mass killing machine. And let's not forget 9/11/2001, Osama bin Laden used four 747s to kill over 3000 people in NYC, PA, and The Pentagon.
