What kind of light arrangement is this (1 Viewer)

This house is a relatively new build and I found this when I tried to change the light bulb so to speak. What are all the different pieces of it and what do they mean? I get the LEDs.

That is an LED fixture. The little yellow-orange rectangles are the active light emitters. From the number of them, that is probably a very bright light. I've go NO IDEA what the other stuff is. Perhaps you have some kind of dimmer switch? Or is the house pre-wired for smart controllers? But there IS a UPC sticker. Perhaps you could get your phone to read that and it would tell you something.

Yes it was pretty fascinating to me this whole deal. Thank you for sending that link, so I also noticed something interesting on that Amazon link that said
"We can change the color(3000K-4000K-5000K) by turnning on & off the switch, with memory function, the light will keep the light color if they are lighting for more than 8 seconds."
I wonder if mine has the same function I'm going to try it because I swear that sometimes it looks brighter than other times and I always thought I was just going nuts.

Where is the fixture? Indoors in an inside room? In an inside room but with windows that let in sunlight? Outdoors on a patio? I'm wondering if the lights in question have an "ambient light" sensor to dynamically adjust brightness.

Ooh interesting question and reason - yes, it's actually in an indoor secondary bedroom, a relatively smallish room with one 'standard' sized window only

The plastic lens stays relatively cool to the touch, making bulb changes a breeze. The base however can be very hot

Are you in a room directly over the Kitchen?

There was a short pause as if he was checking the windows to see if I was outside staring in!

I said move the phone over a few feet or put it on the table. He did, and that cured the problem...

This was the era before cell phones ...

Anyone else know what the problem was?

If it was an all-electric kitchen, it might have been due to a power line that feeds the electric range or oven. For someone to hear a hum like that when not in the same room suggests that the power line must come in through the attic. It ALSO suggests a faulty ground circuit that allows the wires to radiate power that normally would have been grounded. Do you or your friend have a device that checks for ground-fault issues in your house wiring? Sometimes a commercial battery-backup system (computer uninterruptible power supply) will have an indicator for that purpose.

When Barry said he was in the bedroom and the phone was on the floor, I realized that the powerful hum was being generated by the ballast of a mercury vapor strip light.... In those days these were the latest and brightest things, normally used in the kitchen (equivalent to today's LEDs...) so I was pretty sure he was over the kitchen..

Quite interesting. Mine is wired DIRECTLY to the source. Like, when I take off the outer plate - there's nothing but the 3 wires going into the house, and the light thingy is affixed directly to the plate.
