is anyone else out there having a problem with this? I feel like I am working with a bunch of idiots.

I was assigned a task the other day of calculating data and reporting it in a draft that ultimately will be sent to the customer. The representative that I am supporting by doing this is overwhelming me with "confirmations". Right now I am using Excel to run Macros on data, and being almost an expert in it, she is really getting annoying by asking me inadvertently "should I trust you?". That's what 50 confirmations a day tells ME.

The machine is doing most of the work anyway. I almost want to tell this lady, If you don't trust the machine to do the work for you, then DO IT YOURSELF!! Is this problem a common one in our area of work folks? Anyone else deal with non-trusting people???????? This is stupid!

Welcome to the world of Control Freaks - upper management is full of them!

Adam,

I have to admit to being a person with distrust of computer/Access etc.

If you were to look at my Many tables they have the person's name, phone number etc inserted.:D I know the Access purists would laugh.....but I can afford to buy the extra disk space to cover a few fields:). In short, I will not rely on a query to tie in the name of the person, their contact details....I have it in each Many table. In addition I run pairs of Many tables. That is, a form opens for new record etc and then a second form opens for new record. What I can tell you is the gov't with their audits for Financial Services business is 100% happy with us doing it all on computer. No hard copies needed. That is not the case with everyone.

I have seen two failures with Access reading whether a field was null or had an X in it. Certainly, two failures since 1995 is not much....but do you want me to tell you about insurance company failures....and no, I m not talking about errors from Human Input.......So there is more than my two failures.

Of course many (99.9999% not 100%) of the computer stuff ups are human error....and I suspect the lady you are referring to has seen them. I can understand her concern. About 3 years ago one of the insurance company's "quote systems" printed what was different to the screen and the numbers were wrong. Of course it was a simple case of the Report having a different recordsource to the Form......but if you did not know that......you would be like the lady you refer to.

I will continue to have twin many tables. I will continue to have name, address, phone etc go into the Many table.

And in addition, I will continue to use macros for SetValue rather than code. I will also continue to use full reference to the form/field:)

If you don't trust me to do this job then:

Why are you in my office?

Why are we having this conversation?

Why are you wasting my time? (I don't care about YOUR time)

When the source of this problem complains to your supervisor, simply explain that the person insulted you and that you want corporate action taken against them.

My advice would be to try and empathize.

She may have had a nasty previous experience. ;)

That's because you're an idiot:rolleyes:

Throw a bit a honey out and in he comes....never misses:D I won $10

Well...I see I got a few useful posts out of this at least. Thanks to all before Rich came in.

I always try to do a couple cross checks on my data. If after having worked with a person for a period of time one should begin to build trust that you're doing cross checks and not have to keep asking. If someone was tasked with making a major decision base on some data my system produced I don't think I'd get offended if a person I worked with for twenty years ask me how sure I was of the data... Guess it's very subjective...:)

We need to remember that whatever we may think we are not actually Access Gods and a little checking helps to keep us focussed on the task in hand.

Of course It shouldn't get to the stage where there is so much checking and no time left to actually get things done

I think Ken and Rabbie got it right. I was pretty much hands-off type of manager but if I had never checked, even with my best and longest serving guys, I wouldn't have been doing my job. Getting the balance right is not always easy and guess who carries the can.
