Even Better News - Edinburgh Festival

I mean - what is there worth seeing in the UK north of Gloucester?

Col

Well there's my back garden in Stratford upon Avon (picture enclosed), mind you it can seem a bit bleak up here away from civilisation.

I was over in Edinburgh on Saturday for the opening day of the Book Festival. Rather enjoyable, even though it pissed it down the whole day. Back on Friday, and then all of the following week. I've lived in Glasgow (about 55 minutes away) for twenty-nine years and never before have I went to Edinburgh for the festivals.

I just love the atmosphere in the streets :D I trust you are suitably smitten now?

I love what you've done with the place Barry. Did you get any help from the Groundforce team with that or is it all your own work?

I was a bit annoyed. I just wanted to get to the end of Princes Street, but the crowds had gathered against me. Didn't see any street entertaining - just a few people advertising shows near Waverley.

By far the best place to go is just outside the Art Gallaries at the foot of the mound.

I got a specialist garden designer in from Essex. They have lots of good taste there. :p :D

Boring! I at least want a tartan one, not just plain old red - that's so 80's Oscars.

Col

I'm sure you'll find tartan carpets are so 60's British Rail ! Tell you what, we'll compromise, how about a nice carpet of thistles...

Not in the English trains.

Technically it wasn't British Rail in the 60's - it was British Railways.

Col

Thank you, that's good to know, you never know when my life might depend on such trivia :D

Thank you oh great God of wisdom :)

British Railways changed their name to British Rail in 1965 so I think you owe Oumahexi an apology:).

As far as I remember the tartan carpets came in after the name change.

So what was the name between 1960 and 1965?

The period 1960 to 1965 is in the 1960's, so therefore the name in the 1960's was British Railways. It may have changed in 1965, I haven't looked or have the energy to do so.
