Hi - beginner here so no laughing...

I created a switchboard for my db and it was all working fine until I decided to group some of the functions in design view in a different place; then the switchboard items disappeared when I switched to view. I tried to change it back but no joy, so deleted the switchboard form and switchboard table and started again, now it doesn't work whatever. Any good ideas of how to 'reset' the db so I can start the switchboard wizard over?

Thanks,

Barny Blue.

Couple of things. First, backup your db before you make changes (though Im sure you know that know. Second, most people dont recommend the switchboard because its hard to customize. But if it works for you then, great. But if you want to start over, I am pretty sure that when I played with swithboards, deleting table Switchboard Items will get the wizard to start over. (Backup before you do this!)

I think all you need to do is delete the Switchboard Items table and you can then start over.

Thanks for the suggestions but I tried this already. You have to delete the form as well as the table - and when I create the new switchboard, I get the error "there are no items for this switchboard page"...which there are in the table.
Thanks for the very fast response...

I believe you may need to import everything (except the switchboard form and table) into a new, blank MDB or ACCDB file.

I had a horrible feeling someone was going to say something like that...

I know...I tried it but it didn't work. I imported everything except the table and form and then created a new switchboard but again the table is fine, whilst nothing is showing on the form.

Personally, I would just build my own interface (I don't normally use the switchboard in the databases anyway as they are too limiting).

You may not have a high enough post count to post your db but I would like to see the one that does not work. Maybe using one of the free file hosting sites.

bear with it- the ms switchboard is real easy to control - i always edit the switchboard items table directly

the first two columns are the menu item 0 is the title, others are the items

so

menu 1 item 0 is the title
menu 1 item 1 is item 1
menu 1 item 2 is item 2 etc

the third column is item text - this is what gets displayed

the fourth column is the action command - the main ones here are
1 - jump to a new menu
3 - open a form
4 - open a report
7 - I think - quit access

so to jump to a new menu
command 1, argument 3, will jump to menu 3

so now the menu gets refreshed with menu items
3,0 (title)
3,1
3,2
3,3
3,4 etc

to go back to the first menu you just need the following
3, 8, "return to main menu", 1, 1

ie menu item 3.8, displays "return to main menu", action is 1 - menu jump, and argument is 1, jump to menu 1

to get a form to open, the line just needs to be

3,1, "Form To Do This",3,"frmName"

ie menu 3.1, displays "Form to do this", action is 3, so it opens a form called "frmname"

-------
the only catch is you MUST have an item 1 on each menu.
