Ive set up a fault logging system. I want the user to select either "software" or "hardware" from menu 1 and depending on the choice it displays a different set of options on menu 2.

Now is this done in a wizard or do i have to use "if statements" and code it myself ?

Have you tired the built in switchboard manger? It does what you are asking for.

I dont want to use the built in manager as it restrict what I can do with the buttons etc. Also i have already built the database so really im just tweaking it to make it more efficient

everything works pretty much but want this menu system to be specific

If you do not want to use the built-in switchboard, then you can look at it to see how to handle what you are wanting to do. The switchboard manger use a very "lightweight" and efficient method. I also prefer to make everything data driven, like the switchboard manager.

I can see both sides of the argument here about the switchboard wizard. Personally I have never used it, reason: It smacks of Microsoft Access. If you are writing a bespoke application for a client you want it to be bespoke to them not only in its operability but its look and feel. Switchboards always look the same and as soon as you see an app with one you instantly know it was designed in Access. I want a person to walk past it and recognise it as one of mine.

Conversely I see the argument for them if you vba skills are somewhat limited or you have always used them. The problem lies with the fact that what happens if you loose the dependant table. Bang goes your menu.

The switchboard manager offers an easy way of customising menus - allowing an hierarchical set of menus to be automatically managed by the form.

If you dont need hierarchical menus, then any form will do

If you do, then the inbuilt switchboard is ideal - the look and feel can be easily modified

brothertse, you say you need more functionality on the buttons - what do you need exactly?

I would have a Menu for Hardware and a Menu for Software. This way you can tailor each Menu for each specific requirement. It matters not how the data is structured this is just a case of splitting the functions and making them Menu specific.

In totalt I have 3 Menus = "Menu1" "Menu2" "Menu3".

Menu1, has the option of software and hardware. Now If the user chooses Software, then menu 2 will display a list of options, and similarly if the user selects hardware then menu 1 displays a different set of options. The same is said for menu 3 in relation to menu 2.

I have the structure down on paper ready but need to knoiw how to implement it. Im thinkn a serires of "if" statements

Check this menu system out it uses a tree structure

This structure give you great flexibility because you can have almost unlimited items.
The beauty of this menu structure is easy maintain. it utilize a Bill of Materials approach.

sample4 uses a option group.

yes its a tree like structure that I want to use. So do i do this from the table itself ? Im really lost with this.

which one are you talking about?
Tree structure or Option group

Here is the table structure that drive the menu system. Works just like a Bill of Materials. let me know if you have any question.

The one i am using is for 2003, its an active x component.

Is this an Active X control that you can download or buy? Or did you write it? I'm very interested, but don't have a clue how to proceed.

Thank you,
Evan

its part of Microsoft you just need to enabled it under reference and you can add it under insert other, active x control
