And another thing, that mumbled sound is not anything. Ive slowed it down and used noise filtering on audacity, it says nothing. At the end of the mumbling, it almost sounds like it says "best buddies", but doesnt really sound like anything.
Since it couldn't be that it isn't anything beyond a random noise and since it couldn't possibly be picking up sounds from some as yet unidentifed physical source, the case is watertight.

Creepy it is.

A random noise would not have changed what my sister said. It may have affected the quality of her words, but they would have still been there. On the recording, her voice disappears immediately as soon as the mumble starts.

For the record, I never said what caused that mumble. (I dont know!)

A very recent unexplained.

I awoke at 12:30 this morning to the sound of a radio playing full blast in the kitchen. It was definately off when we went to bed and we never have the volume that loud! Only two people in the house were accounted for.

Something similar happened with the car a couple of years ago but we could explain that with a fault in the wiring of the car radio. This one, well, I'll let you know our findings.

To clarify what I'm getting at: You say you don't believe in ghosts - from this I inferred, incorrectly perhaps, also goblins, ghouls, etc. - yet you still find this creepy. In order for something to be 'creepy', doesn't it have to be scary or disgusting? Assuming you don't find the noises disgusting, I was assuming you meant that you were scared by them.

Option 1: there is a rational explanation for these sounds, in which case why would you be scared in any way? I'd opt for this, myself.
Option 2: there is a supernatural explanation - be it ghosts or whatever - in which case your 'creepy' comment stands, but the bit about not believing in ghosts doesn't.

I'm not sure that there would be anything to be scared of anyway. Assuming that something supernatural does exist there is no evidence to prove that anything supernatural can or has ever caused any harm to those of us who have stumbled accross them. There are stories, but then there are stories of "Angels" and other beings of light, so why would we presume that what we have experienced is necessarily harmful or scary?

Did you not watch that documentary where the little girl got pulled into the television and the tree in her garden came to life? ;)

No, I must have missed that one. Think I must have been watching Poltergheist at the time :D

I was told by elders that the spirit world is not a spooky place to fear. The spirit world is filled of people who have been here in the past or people who have not come into this world yet. We come into this world with the ability to see into the spirit world and hear things from the spirit world. But as we become more older and allow other things to become more important we slowly start to ignore most of these things. This is why clindren have friends they can hear and see and older people say there imaginery people.
When you are older and we hear things it is the spirit world telling us things we need to know. I was also told that when we suddenly think of someone who has passed that is their spirit being near you to tell you something.
I am sure that some people will also call that bs, which is fine if that is their beliefs, but I choose to believe what elders have passed to me.

OK, here's the update. Can you believe we have had this clock for eight years and neither of us realised it had an alarm? One of us must have pressed the alarm button by mistake, it was set to go off at midnight, I suppose it took me half an hour to figure out why I wasn't asleep :D As to the volume, no idea, maybe one of us nudged it (it hangs under a wall cabinet). Problem solved, no spooks going to jail this time.

I could listen to stories from your people all day! So much better than heeby jeebying children into fear of the "burning fire" that our teachers tried to feed us. It's great that these traditions are kept alive.

Your reading too much into it. Its creepy because there should be an explanation, but there is no apparent reason for those mumbles. A digital recorder is pretty straight forward, how much could go wrong? That sample of audio your referring to is a recording of what was NOT said. It starts out with my sister saying something, and ends with a mumbling (not my sisters voice) that was spoken so fast it is seemingly impossible to duplicate. If you can explain why a digital recorder would record something that was not said (multiple times, different groups of people) I would love to hear the answer.

For the record, I do not believe in ghosts, goblins, etc. Im sure you must be curious why I make these recordings. I make them because I am curious too. I want to understand what makes the noises appear on the tape, but were never heard by anyone in the property.

@ oumahexi - my parents audio system does stuff like this. It gets turned off at night, and sometimes, in the morning, it will be on. Its a big house, so it is unlikely that there is a neighbor with the same remote causing this to happen. The system is a Bose Lifestyle(?).

But you know that there is one. You may not have it yet, but it's there. From your posts, it's clear that you're a rational person, so the word 'creepy' just sounds strange coming fro you, that's all. 'Perplexing' might have sounded more appropriate.
