I have a database created in Access 03 for a customer running Vista. The customer is running a runtime version of Access 03. When I make changes to the db and copy them to the customer's pc, the changes do not get copied. If I copy the changes to a pc running XP everything copies just fine. I can copy to Vista if I keep a copy of the old db and create a new name for copied db but that's too much of a pain. Is there a way in Vista to copy and replace a file and get all of the changes? I have even deleted the file on Vista before copying the new file and the changes are still not made. Any ideas from anyone??

I swap databases between Vista and Xp all the time and have never had the problem you describe are you sure its not the user account control settings preventing the changes on Vista and not something to do with access....

I have a similar setup running A2003 on Vista and it works OK. Make sure you have full access to the folder on Vista where you store the DB.

I am not too familiar with Vista. Where do I change the permissions on a folder? Thanks.

Right click on the folder in question select properties then security tab you will see the listed permissions alternatively log on as an administrator when making your database changes this should circumvent the UAC.

Good luck John

I have changed the permissions on the folder to allow full control for all users and the db still will not copy and replace. One strange thing is, I can actually delete the orginal file and then copy the new file and it still will not work. It acts like the mdb file is sitting somewhere else on the machine and not being replaced. My user is accessing the db via shortcut on the desktop which also has a switch to point it to a specific mdw file. The only way I can get it to work is to change the name of the db and then copy it and then change the path on the shortcut which is not very efficient and it also prevents me from replacing the mdw file because I can't change the name of it because it would screw up all of my permissions. Any ideas?

I HATE VISTA!!

Have you tried disabling the UAC (User Account Control) just for testing and has the system got something like solid state disk protection running? (thats what I think its called been a while since I looked) this can prevent changes but other than that full outta ideas...

How do you disable the UAC? Is that a setting in the User Accounts in the Control Panel?

In the folder that's supposed to contain the Access file, is there a link on top labeled something like "compatibility files"? Vista sometimes is kind enough to move your file from the main folder into that place and you can go crazy looking for it.

I've read up on it and it's very, very frustrating.

That was it!!! Thanks. Why in the world does Vista hide the file in another folder? It stored it in Local\Virtual Store\Program Files. Is there anyway to turn this off? Thanks again for your help!!

Glad I could help. I know how aggravating it is. You'd never be able to find it if you didn't know where it is.

My understanding is that if a program is in the Programs directory, if Vista detects that it may be accessing something illegally, it will put it in the Virtual Store. I don't understand more than that and I haven't met anyone who really understands it, but I am very, very thankful not to have Vista.
