Gall's Law - Something to Think About

Yes I'm not totally on board with these laws - they kind of seem to contradict each other... Second law of thermodynamics... Law of Entropy. Is life an example of greater order or greater disorder?

    Query to promote students

So a bit leftfield but just thought I'd say. I've been burnt with update queries and normalisation in database design before so here's something to consider... I find queries and maximisation of sub tables better for dynamic immutability. These are difficult concepts to initially get your head...

    SQL Server?

This is a long term project - so give yourself plenty of time e.g year or more... Its a good idea to get the backend into an enterprise grade database... My personal choice is usually sql server or postgres although mysql and maria db are options as well. If you already have an MS Access front...

The Slightly Obscure Music Discussion And Quizzy Thread

Not bad well arranged and well played - some complain about a loss of musicianship in modern bands but when you see songs like that you can see there are still people around and able to craft excellent music. I kind of prefer it to most K pop but not sure that K popl is my thing. I ve just...

The Slightly Obscure Music Discussion And Quizzy Thread

This thread is long hopefully I didn't post that before... but I like them... Tim Henson (the first lead guitarist) I believe designed this in a music scripting programme and then learn't to play it afterwards... Polyphia are really on a wave at the moment and I expect some of the guitarists...

    I'm in Love with ChatGPT

Uncle G - I'm using it in a similar context... I see it both as a good editor/ great mentor and like the best cheapest intern ever. I'm finding it very useful for just getting the right TSQL. I still prefer to use it to polish my stuff rather than just trusting everything that it comes out...

Things that cause Hatred, like a false belief of Hatred

I personally agree with Isaac's opening post. Hatred can bootstrap itself to a position where it becomes self fulfilling and yes that worries me. I personally can go for a windsurf , go to the gym or pick up litter... These things give me peace. I hope others have refuges that protect them and...

Convert Access FE to web app

Personally - I would convert the backend to SQL Azure or SQL Server and join your MS Access front end to that... (not necessarily a small job) Next learn web development and work concurrently on the new web front end while at least maintaining the access front end. This really protects you...

Tell me Something Challenging to do Do/Learn in Ms Access...

A couple of patterns which you might find useful going forward for other projects 1)Figure out the structure of a database that can time atheltic races.. 2)Figure out the structure of a database that can be used for billing in a storage facility.

ChatGPT: The Future of AI is Here!

I see Google have released a music writer... to tell you the truth left me a bit cold but I'm sure it will eventually be brilliant.

The Slightly Obscure Music Discussion And Quizzy Thread

So I was watching you tube the other day and a new artist came up.. and this song in particular.. Most people are pretty amazed initially and then it sinks in a bit how much the guy is tortured. It really blurs the line between poetry and music. I'd be interested in what you guys think. For me...

ChatGPT: The Future of AI is Here!

Its actually an interesting point - all our religious texts tend to start from the point that our gods came before and were more intelligent than us. If we create AI which is more intelligent than us - its a literal demonstration of how entities can bootstrap themselves, or their creations, to...

ChatGPT: The Future of AI is Here!

These are excellent points - at one point I thought that competitiveness was an important aspect of our intelligence. Now I think it was an important factor in the development of intelligence which is a slightly different thing. If computers can be intelligent without having to be competitive...
