It would seem that security woes are running rampant right now.

This is not meant to offend anyone but it would seem that there is a trend right now to just jump into the security wizard and go to town. If you do this without reading up on security first you are going to create some massive headaches for yourself.

PLEASE, read up on security before trying to implement it. There is a boundless amount of information on the subject because it was so new to Microsoft applications at the time and is not very user friendly if you don't know what to expect. The Microsoft website has an excellent paper on the subject and if you check out www.tek-tips.com there are some excellent faqs under Microsoft: Other Topics - Faqs.

Save yourself a lot of worry by reading up on the subject throughly before running the wizard and then do it with confidence as to what is going to happen.

Again this is not meant to flame any individuals but hopefully save you the headaches that can occur when implementing security the wrong way.

I will second this!! :) A few years ago when learning Access, I decided to run the security wizard so only certain users can get on it. How hard can it be, right? Well, I secured myself right out of a database....it wouldn't let ANYONE in, including me, the administrator!!! I ended up re-creating the database...and have never tried to put on security again!!

hi, I did it, too. and it took me a week to figure out what went wrong. I ask an Access instructor re the topic but it seems he does not want to touch the topic. I have three databases and i only wanted to test security on one and it locked me off the three.

I have never used the wizard but there are too many posters who have and had many problems. As far as getting locked out of your db after running the wizard, you have to rejoin your computer back to the generic security file "system.mdw". The wizard will join your PC to the new security file *.mdw and all other databases will not open because of this. Searching your PC for all *.mdw files will find all security files on your computer. You should be able to tell which one is the new security file based on it's modified date and the location of the file.
