My Access program crashes frequently. I tried the 'Repair Office' function, but that has made no difference. On checking, I see that it's Access 2002, not 2003. Can I still get Access 2003? Should I upgrade to that? I don't want to buy the new Office 2007 suite.

What kind of errors are you getting? Are you running a database over a network? Are you using a Front-end/Back-end split database? How many users are accessing it?

Bob: No network involved, just a single user. The access problems are usually when I click on a function, like build table using a wizard, Access goes away and I get the dreaded 'Do you want to report this problem to Microsoft' box. My real question is, should I try to get a copy of Access 2003 to replace my Access 2002?

I wouldn't necessarily move to 2003 as 2007 looks really promising and if you wait a little while until the first, or second, service packs come out I think you will be better off than going with 2003. In fact 2007 lets you work with all versions 97 and above AND keep them in their original format (no conversion necessary and it doesn't screw anyone up that works on it with a lesser version).

Now about your problem - do you have all of the Windows and Office service packs installed? Also, does this happen to just one database, or all? If just one, try importing everything into a new, blank database.

I wouldn't upgrade to 2003 from 2002(XP) as there is no difference in functions whatsoever.

2003 is just a re-release of 2002. All of the features in 2002 are exactly the same as 2003, in fact, 2003 has fewer features. The only real difference is the interface, which in 2003 matches the XP theme, whereas 2002 retains the Classic Style interface.

I would not attempt repairing Office 2002, as the repair feature is rubbish. Try a complete reinstall, or reinstall Access itself.
