access 2003 link tables to MySQL

hi have a mySQL server setup and running fine on a 2nd pc, im trying to connect access to mysql from this pc, i have odbc connectoer 5.1 installed but when i go into access 2003 and go into link tables their no option to choose odbc..

anybody know what im doing wrong

When you link tables and you are presented with a file dialog asking you to select a file for tables to link, select the combobox for 'file type' on the bottom of the dialog and go all way down on the list to "ODBC Database". This will then close the file dialog and present you with ODBC administrator so you can then create a DSN file.

sorry but thats what im doing and their no option to choose odbc database

Hmmm, let's make sure I'm following you.

You selected File -> Get external Data -> Link Tables

Then in the dialog, you select "ODBC Databases" from the combobox for "Files of Type:", which the dialog then closes and you're presented with a new dialog listing some directories and DSN?

You then click "New..." to create a new DSN file which by then you should be able select MyODBC 5.1 from the list...

Did you do that? IF not, where did you get stuck, specifically, and what are you looking at?

I selected File -> Get external Data -> Link Tables but when i goto the file type combo menu theirs only .mdb .mda .mde .dbf .xls and exchange no odbc,

if i goto control panel > admin tools > data sources odbc it shows that mysql odbc 5.1 driver is installed and i can setup a dsn up np in their but not in access

That would my first time I've heard of no ODBC in the option. You scrolled all down to the bottom of the list, yes?

What if you closed Access and opened a new instance of Access, start a blank database... Do you see the option then?

No problem. You're not the only one to get tripped over that 'scroll down to the bottom of list to get ODBC' thingy. ODBC isn't even a file type so it was a bit weird doing that but that's how it works.
