Hi Guys,

We're running Access 2007 on computers on school network and it is painfully slow at times. By "painfully slow" I mean that it takes around 3-5 minutes to open some files and then everything from editing tables to creating forms is so slow so it takes around 20-30 seconds to process a single mouse click. At the moment to solve this we wait till pupil's file is loaded, then close it and then open it again, this seems to solve the issue 9 times out of 10.

BTW, All pupils files are saved on the main server, so there is nothing stored on PC's and we use server 2003 and XP SP2 on workstations.

Would really appreciate any help.

Andrey.

Is it just with MS Access files or is it slow with a large spreadsheet or Word document?

Many thanks for your link, Ken. I'll read though it now and see if I find a solution there. BTW, we have this problem only when pupils use Access 2007, other 2007 applications seem to be ok.

I wouldn't be suprised if there is some kind of server tuning you need to address... record locks, etc - ?

Does it zonk when only one student is trying to access it or does it get progressively worse as more try to access it - ?

Yes, it looks like the problem is with server settings, I read a few support topics about "record locks", but couldn't find where to change settings on the server.

Did you ever correct your problem? i am having the same problem. We are running access 2007 but the DB is still in 2003.. its SOOO slow, takes minutes to look up a record. THanks, Pam

Pam,
Have you already tried the suggestions in the link Ken supplied?

the service pack 1 [i have] and hotfix, yes, but said the hotfix for 64bit vista wasnt needed when i tried to install. so .. rest of my computers are running on xp.

sorry, wrong link, i was referring to the sticky re: vista. i will go thru this one. thx!

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem yet? I am having the same problem and am very frustrated. I have narrowed down 2 kind of strange things:
1) If I go to the folder on the network where the database is located and double-click on the file to open it, I have the problems we're talking about here. BUT if I go to my start menu, open Access, and then use the "Office Button" and "Open" and open the database that way, it runs just fine! Why would that be the case?
2) The situation above is only true if I am the only user in the database. If someone else has it open, it won't run smoothly regardless of how I open it.
I have tried: removing all macros, adding the database location to the "trusted locations" list, and creating an entirely new database and imported the objects from the old database all to no avail.
Please help! I'm at wits end here!

Try to download & install the latest Microsoft Office updates & hotfixes.

same prob here especially when there is a printing going on in the network. i have also read that link. still not solved.
