Hi,

Really struggling to create the database that I need to. Its very hard when the courses I have done both focused on how to maintain a delicatessens inventory, when I am trying to learn how to design a database that we call our Question and Answer Database! Seems more like a project management type than what I learnt.

I'm not sure if anybody would be able to give me some guidance if I share what I have created and then describe what I am trying to achieve. I understand you are all probably very busy people but I'm at my wits end and feel like running out into oncoming traffic!

Thank you in advance to anybody who may be willing to help.

I'm sure you'll be given good advices - so describe what you're trying to achieve.
But be also prepared that you may have to change some of what you've already made.

I have attached the form that is to be used for the data entry and to look at the records that have already been recorded.

I need to have each of the tab pages at the bottom of the form be able to have entries added to them in a chronological order with details of the various updates, I have attached how we currently record the updates in an excel spreadsheet.

I need to know how to format the tab pages to do this and i.e. does each tab need its own table created? How do I link each table to the individual record that it refers to.

Thanks everyone.

Can you give us the 30000 ft overview in 5-10 lines of plain English --no jargon?
Tell us in simple English, just as you would describe what you re trying to do to a 6 yr old.

Focus on WHAT not HOW!!

I want to move information from excel to access so that we can track each entry and update them.

Each one can have a few things that are being done to it by different people before it is finished. Sometimes there is a lot of work done on a entry that needs to be added with a date and name.

I need to find outstanding work to follow up when using the database.

So, you have to track things and update them. And a few things are done to it by many people.

Great.

Work through 1 or both of these tutorials. You will learn about database, table design and relationships. The tutorials have solutions, but you will learn by working through them. You learn/experience a procedure you can use with any database. You'll learn how to build a model that you can test. The model is a blueprint for the database.
Each tutorial will take about 45 minutes.

Class info system
Consolidated Widgets

Here is a link to several generic data models. Once we understand the things you have to track. And what track really means, I'm sure one of the models will be helpful to you.

You may also find some insight in watching some of the Business Analysis videos on youtube by BA-Experts. They are very good and include some humor.

Good luck.
