When opening Access, the default printer changes from "Letter" to "User-Defined". The output is then unreadable. I then change it back to "Letter" and all is fine until I reopen Access with the same result.
I'm using Access 2003 with a Brothers HL1440
How can I make Access leave the printer's default setting as it is?

don't use defaut - use spefic printer option and set it up this way to how you want it per report .

that should do it or re-instal the printer and set the defualts to what you want

The Paper Size should not vary, this would suggest that one or more forms or reports have the incorrect paper size. The point about using the default printer is so that US and UK Paper Size can coexist and any remote users can use their default printer. Also if a variety of printers are used or the user does not have the specified printer Access will moan that it can't find the specified printer.

Thanks GaryPanic & Simon_MT
Gary, I have tried to reinstall the printer with the same results.
Simon, Thanks for the tip, I will be looking into this right away.

Turn off the Name Auto correct option under Tools/Options. It has been known to interfere with printer settings. Also, make sure that your version of Access is patched to the most recent release.

Thanks Pat
I have the Name Auto correct turn off with the same results. I have 4 other people using the same setup with only 1 having the problem, but only when opening Access. As soon as Access closes, the printer returns to "Letter".
Not sure where to go next.

The one person having trouble start with that users Printer Settings, then the driver, Regional Settings. I don't recall seeing a Registry Setting PageSize specific to Access.

Thanks again Simon for another good tip. I have mirrored all printer settings for all user. I'll be looking into the Regional Settings for each next.

delete the printer - reboot - get new driver for pritner - then ensure when you set the pritner up that the default paper upon set is xxxxx whatever you want

if this doesn't help

how ever the other printers install over a network or from disk ??..
this shouts out at a local pc problem setting and not an access problem

did my suggestion of not using the default printer but speficing a pritner work - this should override everything the printer is defaulting to ..

not one to tread on anyones toes ont his but to me this sounds a printer setting problem.

side note does this user have the pc set up the same way on turning on - what i mean is - i had a user who was the odd one out and did not have number lock on - and for some weird reason this caused a problme with some MS stuff - so on the reboot - check to see if number lock is on if not turnit on and then open access (this one is a stretch i know - but in the end it was how i fix 1 persons problems that noone else had..)
