im sitting here waiting for access to export a very large table to excel and notice that the program (access) is only using about 10% of available CPU resources. i notice this when running queries as well. I suppose it has to do with the exact actions that access is performing, but maybe not how many of them. i say this because sometimes, when summing and grouping for example, access appears to use closer to 50%.
i dont suppose there is a way to allow access to *access* additional available resources in the hopes of drastically increasing the time it takes to run some of these queries or exports?? besides upping the priority in the task manager, which does nothing.

Access is probably running as fast as it can but has to wait for network or disk response.

ya, i think you're right. i dont know what else it could be.

The only way to give Access more resources is to give them to the system and then let Access ask for them through normal Windows internal system calls.

One quick thing is to (if possible) max out your swap space on any drive that has some allocated. You do this on XP from

Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> System >> Advanced (tab) then under performance click Settings. From there, select Advanced (tab) then at the bottom you will see something about virtual memory and you can change it. The more virtual memory you have, the more resources Access can ask for.

After that, you are stuck because I think the rest of that 50% is disk wait or device driver wait, neither of which will show up on the statistics you can get easily.
