Access network drive newbie

I'm a newbie when it comes to putting Access databases on network drives. I thought if you put a database on a network drive that more than one person could open it. But that is not happening with a database I put on one. Is there some property I need to change?

I believe it will do it by default. Have you split it and it doesn't?

it is not sensible to have more than one user open the same copy of the database though, there are lots of references and discussions here about this.the recommendation is for each user to have a copy on their own PC.

of course not

split the database - but the backend on the server, and each user has a separate copy of the fornt end.

it read like you had not split the database, and all users were using the same netwrok copy of the database
