Hi Guys,

Yesterday everything is running well both my Access 2003 DB & the newly created Access 2007 DB, but this morning the applications is not running properly (2K3 DB are running under 2K7 runtime...etc) then this afternoon I will be running the compact & repair utility suddenly the computer starts installing the Access 2003 & asking me for .CAB on the original disc, then upon opening the 2K7 DB it install again the Runtime Environment.

I am confused & afraid to loose all the work i've done, your help is highly appreciated.

How are you starting the application(s)? I ran into this problem with people who had more than one version of Access on their computers - if you are having them open the application by double clicking, it will automatically use whichever version of access was last used on that person's computer. If you use a shortcut, you can specify in the target which version of Access to use when opening.

Hi Alisa,

Thanks for the reply.

I installed shortcuts on every computer, but it seems that the computer is using the last version, but the problem was whenever the user runs an access application it asks for the original CD of previous access & on 2007 application it install the runtime automatically, is there a way to prevent this problem.

Regards,

Jeff

If you are running your app in the 2007 runtime, but using Access 2003 intermittently, this is going to happen. It is because Microsoft assumes you will only ever have one version of Access installed at once, so the two versions of Access have to share one set of registry keys, hence the reinstallation problem. I use SageKey to get around this, but you have to pay for it - they make a product that you can point to in your shortcut that somehow "protects" the registry from going through all that nonsense when you change versions. I don't know whether there is free software that does the same thing, but I really like SageKey.
