Hello

Apologies for this, i've searched the posts but can't understand this particular situation.

I've just taken up a new job and there is a database that has been secured using a workgroup/security system. I have the password for the administrator.

If i try to open Access on one PC it promts me for the password,

I have checked in the system folder in windows and there are two files systemgd.mdw and system.mdw

I have also checked the folder in which the(front end) db resides and there is no .mdw however there is one each of the previously mentioned files in the folder containing the back end tables.

So i am now quite confused...

When i try accessing the same db from my laptop it just tells me i don't have suffcient permission to open the database without promting for a password. I can aslo open Access with no request for a password.

even more confused.........

Quite honestly i hate the workgroup thing and i just want rid of it.

Can any one tell me what is going on??

Once a db has been locked is there anyway of removing the workgroup thing and then using a non mucked about with mdw file??

Thanks v much

Chris

Sounds as though the db was not properly secured if you are able to open it without password.

To get rid of the security read the Microsoft Security Faq located here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/access/content/secfaq.asp

Before you remove the security you might want to read the faq to understand how it works, what went wrong when they applied it to decide whether you truly want to get rid of it. Without it you have no control as to what people screw up in the db.
