Hello all,
We have a really old access97 mdb file that I've asked a developer to make some changes to. The source file I sent the developer was in windows xp. His operating system is windows 10 but he's installed access97 so he can do the work for us.

The bizarre thing is that, when he sends the file back to me, it reverts back to before the changes he made and even if he copies and pastes the file in his own computer, it also reverts back. also, changing the file name reverts back too.

i''ve never come across this before and only happening to this one file.

any help would be much appreciated.

I didn't think you could use A97 with W7 or later. I gave up on A97, and converted to A2003 after W7.

I don't really understand what you mean by "revert back".

Which Access version are you using to open the database, and how are you opening it?

Sorry, when i say reverting back, when he sends me back the file, all new changes are lost.

he is using access97 and pressing shift the opening file.

Did he unattached to a local folder on his computer?
Did you unattached and replace in the folder where the old database remain?
How do you open the database file, clicking on it in the file folder, or are you using a shortcut?
I would zip the database file, when it is send!

yes and yes.

we are opening by double clicking on folder, selecting it then pressing enter too.

we've tried zipping it, wetransfer, dropbox, you name it we've tried.

we have come to the conclusion that it is some incompatibility with the operating system. he will now be setting up windows xp system and see how gets on.

thank you all.

Also to rename it after changes have been finish?

when he opens A97, he might be asked to convert to a later version, in which case he may well save it under a new name.

in that case he needs to send you the new version.

A bit obvious, I know, but could this be the issue?

Are you still using A97. Why not convert it to a newer version?

renaming it doesn't help.

he was running access97.

also, we have a very archaic system that we use for our company but it works really well.

i'm not too sure what kind of work will be involved in order to upgrade to latest version but i think it's something we'lll have to look into.

just checking but could there be an auto update routine that restoring to a saved front end on a server?

Agree with Moke. This can't happen unless there is a source of the file to overlay the new one. Otherwise, a REVERT almost can't happen (because there would be no source for the older data.)
