add a new customer but also adds duplicates in other tables

Hi, I may have done this all wrong. Hopefully someone can tell me. OK I have a few tables in a support database i have made. The tables I am having issues with are one named contacts and another named company. When I go to add a new contact the form has a combo box for the company field, which gives a list of the companies available in the company table. But I have noticed that when I add a new contact I end up adding another record in the company table as well as the contacts table.

Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong???:confused::confused:
 
When you say adding a new record to the company's table is it adding a blank record or a duplicate of an existing company? What methodology are you using to add a new contact?

Hi thanks for the reply, it's adding a duplicate of an existing company. I'm pretty new to databases so not sure what you mean. Oh and I'm on Access 2007 using a bastardised version of the Customer Service template
