Alabama boy kills 1051 pound monster pig

Just had a look at the story in full- this does not seem to tally up

how coudl a little boy run for 3 hours chasing this animal -
Boars 9 times out of ten run away- but if they feel threaten - they will charge -

I know there were adults present- but I would have shot this animal if it started to charge my child - given its size- I would doubt a hand gun would of stop it in one shot even at close range you would have to shoot this rigth in the forehead and at that close range with 1000lbs of mad pig charging down on you - it would still be travelling forward -

The range of a handgun is pretty limited with any degree of accurrecy (typo)
pretty much anything past 40/50 feet and you are pushing it - having done competetion shoots (admittantly with rifles - but we did use hand guns (side arms) - Browings - Luggers

we were hard pushed to hit targets at 25m to any real degree we were hitting them at 15m but again to be that presise (typo) and at 5 years old -

sorry i think that this animal probably was shot at least a couple of time by rifles - injured and then finished off by a single shoot at close range by the boy.

Rats and other vermin are allowed to be killed with hand guns - you need to be licensed -

reason for this is if you are in a confined area - it is the most practicle solution
but I did mis-read you post mentioning hand guns - when I did the first answer

also with mad cow - hand guns were used

The hand guns were used by trained professionals, not kids;)

Gary, just to clarify - the killer kid is aged 11 now. But he had his first kill at the age of 5.

I was questioning whether aged 5 was normal to learn how to kill a living thing.

I'm getting the impression that the USA's quest for killing something does in fact start shortly after birth, and with a gun as easy to buy as Smarties, it's no wonder the gun rules (after money and god) - or is money and god the same thing - they're both worshipped in the USA

Col

yeah .. there is that

Looking at the lunatics who do the shooting - they (from memory) aren't the country boys - its normally the townies that go bonkers.

We in the UK have had our own nutters- (Hungerford, back in the late 70's early 80's) Micheal Ryan (I think)

Yes - but we have a little way to go to record 82 people killed by the gun every day as is the case in the USA.

Thanks for noticing, Gary. IMHO, you'll find that despite their protestations of civility, those from the more urban areas are more likely to be half-a-bubble out-of-plumb.

Col, I have been pulled over many times (there was apparently a gravitational distortion in close proximity to my right foot:o ) and have never had a gun pointed at me by a police officer. In fact, I have never been mugged or robbed... at gunpoint or otherwise.

Story Update: It seems that the "monster pig", until quite recently, was farm raised. The original owner said it was too large to butcher ( ) or keep. He came forward when suspicions of a doctored photo were raised.

Honest question for you, Col: Are you a vegetarian?

Honest answer - no way Jose! don't believe in all that rubbish (vegan, veggie, organic shite). Give me a nice rump steak and chips and I'm happy.:D

Averages 82 per day wow that is a lot

do we know what our average is ,and does it pro-rata out the same

given that the USA is x times bigger than the UK with a population 6- 7 fold that of ours

ie per million how many

co's there has been a pate of recent shootings in the inner cities here .

Heres some stats I found on the subject:

Wow - shit that does bring it into reality

fraid you cannot hide from this one - guys
in 1 year England/Wales stats are lower than the daily average for USA-

no matter how I tried to average that out the US would have to be at least 365 time bigger than the UK and have the same population-

Guys this does not look good.

however back tot he point

I think that those brought up with firearms are probably more respectful of them, than those who are townies, its the townies who are the fruit loops - I presume that the country folk - use the weapons, see the impact/result and this has an impact

Now there will always be a few nut cases everywhere so even these country folk will have a few loose cannons - but the townies they see all the TV programmes, which don't really show the result of shootings that well
and Ganster rap music promotes a gun culture - for all the wrong reasons .

I know that the Amercians have a constitution that allows arming of the civilian population , but from what I hear even this is open to interpretion (typo)and there are 2 views on this.

However how would they remove guns from society now.

no matter whatt he view on this is, it would be after the horse has bolted, no point say you should of locked the barn door - you need to catch the horse .

Any reform would have to be piecemeal - say increasing the age to 21 (don't know what the age is currently) also must have no convictions etc

In the UK those how have firearms are tightly monitored and lincenses are hard to get hold of.

I ramble.

Col this is in reference to why police break leather on "routine" traffic stops. am currently looking for statistics for you, hope this at least helps some.
Many officers are killed each year and thousands more are injured in traffic related incidences. For example, in 1998, about half of all officer, line of duty deaths were related to traffic incidences. This is because even the most routine stop for a traffic violation has the potential for danger.

Routine traffic stops often turn out to be not so routine. Officers find uninsured drivers, suspended licenses, impaired drivers, illegal firearms, drugs and fugitives. Discoveries like these are all in a day's work for many officers. This is why officers are trained to place a great deal of emphases on their safety and take a defensive posture at the stop until the risk of confrontation or injury is diminished.

Here is some info I found from the FBI

Thanks Kal - so Bod is wrong then, and what we see on the TV cop video shows is in fact, the norm.

Now there's a thing, yet another instance of an American trying to play down what is in fact, reality.

Col

Depends on where the cops are- out in the sticks probably not - in the towns then probably yes

Yeah, you know how those urbanized city-slickers from Kansas are

Has anyone got the annual stats for killings with a toothbrush to compare to the guns stats?

That data is not readily available since the implementation of a 15-day waiting period for some of the more powerful battery-operated models...
