Anyone heard of Chris Rock?

Here today, gun tomorrow.

Col Rich
Do you actually get a kick out of having a dig at a guy who is not around to comment back?

And he explained often enough he shot under strict license controls when the animals needed culling, the meat was then taken for food.

Have a go at anglers, they are far more cruel, hooking fish , tearing it out of their mouths and then keeping the fish in a keep net till they get bored, whence they throw them back and go off for a beer.

Or do you know too many anglers?

I'll be on a big contract starting next week until mid-august, then on vacation for two weeks, then back on the big contract for all september. So, I won't be here often until october, if not later. As for the vacations, I'll stay at home, or close enough to sleep at home each night, but I promissed to miss Newman to stay away from anything related to work. Last year, I worked almost the whole vacation through and she didn't appreciate. She accepts that I work 60-80 hours a week, but would like that I get away from work for these two weeks.

I had thought for sure you were going to say you were going fishing... Congratulations on the big contract.

the ****** was on at 5:15pm

I am utterly amazed that no one questioned this remark.
Now... I know Col. I know he CAN'T be racist.
But, in America... racists would be the only ones that use a term like "******"
In the U.K. however, is this an acceptable term or is it viewed as derogatory?

Just wondering.

Oh.. by the way, Chris Rock also played in a pretty cute film... was a remake of that old Warren Beatty film, which was a remake of a really old film. You know the one. Where the guy dies because the angel pulls him out of his body before some horrible accident occurs (which he was going to survive) and then says he was cheated out of his life. (Which was to be a star football player like the Beatty remake, or a comedian as in the Chris Rock version, or a big name boxer like in the original) I think the original was "Here comes Mister Jordan". I know the remake with Beatty was "Heaven Can Wait" Ahhh! Perusing imdb.com I see now that the Chris Rock version was named "Down to Earth".
Anyway, in all versions, the too-soon-taken main character gets a "loaner body" which is an insanely rich man. Oh why am I telling you all this story? You already know it. Anyway.. yeah... Chris Rock did a remake version of it. It was cute.

Back to my original question though... what other terms for black people do the British (non-Racist British) still use that Americans (ahem... non-Racist Americans, as myself) would be surprised to hear?

To be clear, I think the only PC term for this, even though the NAACP hasn't changed it's acronym, is either "African American" (do you use African British???) or "Black".

Seriously... I am honestly curious.

LANGUAGE COL!

Yes you are the first American to pick up on it I think- I did comment straight after the post. I am surprised no yanks commented seeing the troubles I have had with how I use the word America. Good to see the priorities are straight there - a word with racist overtones happily ignored, but a defintion of America differant from the yankee norm seems a big no no.

I'm sure Col didn't mean anything by it!

I had already posted the word Niggers , but then only in reference to the only reason I know Chris Rock.

Our great and glorious previous leader:rolleyes: came up with a plan just for this scenario, African British, West Indian British, Iraqi British, Iranian British, Indian British, Pakistani British, Bangladeshi British, etc. etc needless to say the idiot ran out of paper;)

I think you could here in the UK get away with saying Black , without offending too many..

Oh, I KNOW Col didn't mean anything by it. I just didn't know if he was using the term showing his mutual disrespect for Chris Rock, (After all... he called a bunch of people mothercluckers. ****** may have been his retort.) or if it was an acceptable term over there that was much in use.

And yes, Rich, those ridiculous PC terms they made up are a waste.
I'm not about to recite my heritage to properly define myself.

I'll just say "White" or "American".

There is an old British comedy with a character that used this term on a regular basis. The actor playing the part admitted the character was supposed to be an object of ridicule but the character actually became a cult figure in the UK. Col has cited him many times. It's no surprise really that Col was ignored on this occasion, his clamor for attention is sometimes quite lamentable.

Give that lady a coconut!

Tess, any ****** Yank that comes over here and on live TV at 5:15pm, calls the audience a bunch of motherf*ckers deserves all the abuse he gets.

If you had 8 or 9 year olds watching (as they do at that time) would you approve?

As long as him and his bad mannered disrespectful mouth stay in the States then thats fine, you can keep him.

Col

Having said that, the word "******" is fairly common in Bristol as is "chalkie", it's not seen as a racist comment. It's just used in normal conversation. I've also used the term in Essex and hasn't met with any adverse response.

I'm unclear as to what the fuss is about - I do disapprove of using the N word though.

Obviously the Americans say how bad it is, then carry on beating up the likes of Rodney King on a daily basis - especially in the Bible Belt south.

Col
