Auto number is not displaying on form filed

I am using linked sql 2005 tables in access. I have the problem with Auto number.when i go for new record Auto number is not displaying the number.
Any helP?

Does completing the data input cause the AutoNumber to show? I have found that linking an Access 2003 Front End to an SQL Server 2005 Back End creates a situation where the AutoNumber is not displayed until the record is complete. That does not mean that it is not acquired. If the update fails, the AutoNumber will become unavailable for use even though it was never used.

yes, u r right. Auto number is getting displayed if i goto any of subforms. But i want to dispaly it on the main form before going to any subform.
i am also using teh access 2003 front end and sql 2005 linked tables.And my autonuber field is primary key on the table.

Can you clarify what do you mean by "record is complete".

the only alternative, really is to generate your own number sequence. Store the next number to be used in a table, and retrieve/update it each time you need a number.
