Hi Everyone - I am in the process of setting up my database and thought I would be able to just pop in a CD-RW to back it up after each work day like I do for Excel. I find however, that I am not able to do so. Am I doing something wrong or can't Access be backed up on a CD?

If Access can't be backed up on CD how do I go about making an off-site copy of my work in case of fire, theft or hard drive crash?

I am not a computer genius so you need to keep your answer simple as technical jargon goes right over my head and I end up more confused than I already am.

Thanks for any and all help that anyone can give me.

Take care.

Bernie,

You can back up to the CD. However, the file as it resides on the CD will
in all likelyhood be "read-only". You will have to use Windows to change
that and you should be good to go.

Zipping the db first will make it easier to open the db from the CD. Access requires the free use [create/edit] of the record locking file .ldb or else the db will state that it can only be openrd as read-only. As stated by Wayne, all you have to do is remove the read-only property once you copy the file [any file] from the CD.

Search this forum for the key work "backup" and the user name "ghudson" and you will find the code I have posted to easily create a zipped up copy [using WinZip] of your db [even while it is opened] and the copy can be made any destination on your hard drive.
