Backup database online ?

I read a lot of threads and some KB articles before this, but am still confused.

Can a copy of the BE database be made on the Server while users are logged on ? Max No. of users is 7.

Does copying a BE while work is going on lead to corruption in the database.
Right now i make a copy of the database thru code and then compress the copy for a backup.

I regularly make copies of BE's while users are logged in. It's not the absolute safest practice, but I've never had a major problem occur. If you were copying while a user was actually in the act of editing a record, you might lose the changes to that record; depends on how you have your record locking set up.

Safest would be to kick everyone out of the FE before messing with the BE. I have code that does this when I need to repair/compact the BE.

I understand that the record being edited may not be saved. Its ok with me. My major concern is with corruption. i do force users to quit while compacting but allow backups to be taken while users are logged on.
