If a member here tries to dox, or deliberately link to personal information of another member, it will lead to an instant ban of a length deemed appropriate by the person doing the moderation. Like this post if you agree with this policy.

This new policy is following an incident that happened earlier today.

Edit: To add clarity, it could even be an online website that holds "personal information" about a member, which is publicly available, but the member has not decided to disclose it here. I am not talking about linking to a business website. The idea is to let members keep their relative anonymity regarding personal information, unless they wish to disclose it.

who is mr.B?
i hope not the Mr.B with the Teddy bear.

If you get a sniff that Mr B might have signed up on this site under a different guise, let me know. He is now showing his true colours.
Now that "email address" sounds a lot like someone we have all known for a long time, doesn't it?

If it is who I think it is, he is already on my IL. :)

Just so I have it straight (I'm a little thick at times), BS = FR?

And now I have a new word for my vocabulary - Doxing - never heard of it before. Reading James Clavell(the complete Asian saga) a few decades ago, I learned what a Doxy is, but they have separate meanings...

I have no idea what this thread is about. Everyone seems to be talking in riddles.
I think these forums have an undercurrent of something dark, it's just a feeling I have. I think I'll sit things out on the sidelines until the conversation reverts to subjects of interest like cars, gardening, music, houses etc. I've no interest in things sinister or malicious to other people.

So what did BS (mod edit) do apart from trying to dox people here?

Col, what has been going on is that we had a particularly unruly member. And I am DEFINITELY NOT talking about you. At your worst you have been a mild annoyance to some of us, and we won't talk about the departed person with whom you had a feud. She is gone now and, I hope, too classy to act negatively on a grudge against the forum.

What darkness you have sensed is an actual existential threat. Jon dropped a "temporary ban" on a member who has been extremely vocal and negative, casting doubts on the way the AWF site is run. I actually missed the exchange leading to it, but that person is now banned. He attempted to create other AWF accounts using names filled with hatred. His apparent intent is disrupting forum operations through objectionable (or who knows what else) posts and then reporting us. This person is spewing venom because his suggestions weren't as well received as he thought they should be, I guess. But it's a bit of arrogance to think that there is something wrong with a site that has lasted over 20 years, but HE thinks he could do better.

The comment about doxxing comes from the fact that this member doxxed Jon, which is what earned him the outright ban. If you didn't know what doxxing is all about, I'll tell you: It is the act of revealing personal information online about someone with the intent that other malicious online persons could mount an attack against this doxxing target. Jon has made it clear in other posts that doxxing is now a ban-level offense.

As to staying away until the conversation calms down, that might be wise, Col. We are still settling down after the major disruptions of our recent history. If I weren't a moderator, I might reduce my visit frequency, too. But I happen to like the members and want to help make it better for those who stay and those who have problems with Access or other computing topics.

Thanks Doc for the explanation. I sensed something was going on. Its horrible how people can be like that - for what reason?
Like you, I've been here since forever but your explanation puts things to a whole new level, yes I admit I've had (what I call) banter with several members over the years (including you) but that's it, just banter. I enjoy sensible discussion and learning about different cultures - particularly the USA. I'm almost 80 years old now and fortunately still have an interest in people and cultures. I don't want to get involved in dark sinister activity the Internet has opened up, I will do my best to help bring the AWF dark period to an end if i can, and maybe we can all get along and share our many interests, there is so much we can learn from each other.
I'm not interested in who is the person or people you speak of, that's for more senior people than me to deal with. In the meantime, I'll continue tending my garden and playing my guitars and chip in here periodically.

means a woman/girl/transgender.
maybe attributed by Elvis Costello:
Code:
She may be the face I can't forget
A trace of pleasure or regret
May be my treasure or the price I have to pay
She may be the song that summer sings
May be the chill that autumn brings
May be a hundred different things
Within the measure of a day

She may be the beauty or the beast
May be the famine or the feast
May turn each day into a heaven or a hell
She may be the mirror of my dreams
A smile reflected in a stream
She may not be what she may seem
Inside her shell

The song "She" was originally by Charles Aznavour and was covered by Elvis Costello for the rom-com film Notting Hill

Dang, I stepped away for a day and apparently missed a lot.

Whoever the ** this person actuall is, I sensed from about day 2 that their attitude was .. Strange. I remember telling him to layoff the coffee for a while and step back to take a breath. Apparently that was not done.

It is indeed sad whoever would seek to endanger this site is truly on the Wrong Path. I can only hope they find the healing they apparently need, as usually hurt people hurt people.

Doxxing is ultra popular in political games, but is an ugly thing that shouldn't even be contemplated in such a context as here.

I'm jealous of Col's gardening, I wish I had a garden and have always wanted one, but living in the desert it's a bit more interesting to try to grow things. Most things that grow are very thorny and awful to try to upkeep.

I wish this site nothing but the best and even on the worst days when I slammed my fist on the table out of temporary frustration to someone or some thing (which hasn't happened in a really long time, as I learned how to detach from such moments), I still would never wish anything but the best for the site and Jon's ability to keep it going.
