After reviewing comments on Access 2013, I decided to go for 2010. I could not believe how hard it would be to find a legitimate site that actually had Access 2010. I ended up getting it as a included product of Office Pro 2010. This leaves me with several dilemmas (1) de-install current office 2010 possibly loosing an e-mail fix for POP logic used by my service. (2) Which Access to load 32/64 bit! All of my current DBM files are vintage Access 2003. I have Win 8. Would I loose anything by going with the 64 bit program? What advantage would 32 bit provide me? TIA :banghead:

Eventually, I hope to actually get to programming. LOL

Additionally if you are designing databases and you are having to distribute database front ends between 2003 , 2007 and 2010 it can be an advantage to design in 2003 as you can port that forward to 2007 and 2010 easily.

Problems can arise if you try and port a 2010 database back to 2003/2007.

I have in no way hit the limits of 32 bit yet so 64 will be a move only makes sense for me when the majority of my users move and I can get the same functionality.

The more I learn, the dumber I feel! I think my DBMs are very simple and I am unaware of 'add-ins' supplied by other vendors. Currently I am attempting to find out if my installed Office 2010 was done as a 32 or 64 bit. Sorry to say I can't locate the information or my associated Product Key; where is the HELP tab when you need it? LOL . If I am using 64 bit Excel and Word, then I do not think I have a choice since I converted many of my spread sheets from Office 2003!

Any use of OCX controls (Microsoft Windows Common Controls for example) counts as 'add-ins' too. Those are not support in Access x64.

I decided it was best to let the Geek Squad handle everything - 32 bit and Access 2010 now available - any cautions before I open Pandora's box? LOL To convert or not to convert right away - does it allow a second chance? :banghead: Believe or not I am running out of stupid beginners questions.
