Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good book for learning more about Access?

I have basic experience with the programme, but am hoping to tackle the old 'questionnaire/survey' issue. A lot of books I can find on amazon seem to be set at such a level that I can already do (multiple tables, simple queries and reports), I need something a little more in depth. Others don't seem to tackle the specific issues I'm going to face (although I could be wrong about that!). Also, as I usually don't bother with computer manuals (I generally pick up and play with new programmes) I don't know which ones are best (e.g. Microsoft own, 'Dummies' etc)?

EDIT: I'm using Access 2002.

Thanks a lot!

Bek

Access bible (I found this easy to read, and helpful-ish)
their are a few cook books out there as well - VBA codings for more specific items
and this forum

a couple of the gurus here on the site also do books .. Pat Harman (?)

I find Access Developers Handbook very useful.

search this site for suggestions.

i've found roger jenning's "using microsoft office: Access 2007 the only access book you'll ever need" to be rather worthless despite its claim and its 1400+ pages. the first 3 things i looked up were 'not covered in the scope of this book'. BS.

The problem with most books you'll find these days is that they deal with rather contrived problems that are difficult to project onto your own very real problem. Therefore, a very large number of such books are totally worthless once you are past the "newbie" stage.

My wife teaches MS Office software. She hasn't found anything good out there either. To her, the Element K books have been next to useless. I wish I could give a good title for your reading pleasure, but the truth is, I've never found such a book.

There is actually a lot of good information out there on the Web and in this forum. Googling for a topic often returns good information.

Hi Bek,

You've posted a somewhat difficult question to answer because every person learns things differently. I'm sure you'll get many differing opinions on what would be best for you. What one person might believe is a terrible book, another person might find it to be a terrific resource.

I believe your best option, if you're still serious about wanting a good book, is to go down down to your local bookstore and spend lots of time browsing through the various titles. Books can vary by author style, content, and target audience so buy the one that feels right to you and seems to address issues you are running into with your projects. As you already pointed out, a book can't always answer every question you have. A really good book, however, helps give you the broader knowledge to apply what you have learned to solve issues that directly impact what you're working on.

I do have a list of books here if you're interested. Good luck with your search!
