I don't know too much about cars but I just want to know if there is a problem with my brakes. Every time I brake my brakes make a tick noise. My car is relativley new (10k miles). Any clue why it does this? I'm pretty sure my brakes aren't old, maybe they need grease on them.

dont grease your breaks!!! a tick doesnt neccesarily mean your breaks are going bad. a griding or a squeal is a more likely break problem tick could be a rotor out of warp.

or a problem with the ABS. ABS works by rapidly pulsing the brake solenoids, regardless of how hard you hold the pedal. The result is a rapid clicking or rattling that most people with their first set of ABS have never experienced before.

oh, yeah, and like Ray said...no grease on the brakes

Yeah this is foreign language to me. So is there anything in particular I should check, ie. abs? Is there anything I can do to get this to stop because it's annoying and it makes me really paranoid while driving...lol

Garage will be able to tell you whats up

Quickest way is to remove them completely :D but it might cause side effects that I can't be responsible for. :)

not just asking a question!!

Depends on who you visit. But, since kid appears to be in Georgia, maybe stopping by Midas or Meineke (or some other brake place) and asking the question might be a good place to start.

yeh i'll just go in and get it checked. I'm still under warranty for a good while so hopefully this won't cost anything. thanks dudes.

Dont grease your brakes - it will remedy the tick noise by replacing it with the sound of you screaming in panic when you find you have no brakes

The tick noise is probably from wear in the sliding surfaces, when the ABS brakes pulst the runout in the sliding surfaces of the brake pad is basically rattling - you need to have a brake shop look at them because most ABS systems use an accumulator and you could cause damage to you or your vehicle if you try to tackle it yourself... gone are the days of tinkering under the hoods or bonnets of our own vehicles - unless you are into vintage ones...:)

If you can not find a shop to properly service your brakes, just replace the horn with one that is louder!;)

Breaks aren't that hard if you know the basics. I dont know the severity of the tick, so i cant tell if you should worry too much about it

well, if I break really slow say 30 ft before a stop light my breaks usually don't tick. But if I'm maybe 10 miles away and break somewhat late (I don't have a heavy foot on the break) that's when the tick noise comes. I usually need to turn down my radio to hear, but sometimes if a break too late the tick over shadows the radio.

Thats ABS. no need to worry about it. Sometimes if its real slippery and you do it youll feel it in the peddle too! in know when i drive a car with abs.( my POS truck doesnt have them) it always catches me off guard

Sorry - personal pet peeve is spelling

It is Brakes not Breaks

Breaks are what you get at work, or when you fall off a ledge and break your leg, or when you manage to get discovered and sign a record deal.

LOL, for some reason I veered off of spelling it correctly. I started out spelling it correctly in the first couple posts. I think it is cause I'm truly ready for this weekend BREAK, 1 hr 15 left ... whew.

2 hours 3 minutes left here, and I concur with everyone else, it sounds like ABS and if it is still under warranty take it to where you bought it and they should check it out for free
