Hi. - When I attempt to copy an Access 97 mdb file from one directory to another, I get the following error message after the copy process has been on for 20 -35 or so seconds:
Cannot copy Filename.mdb: The drive cannot find the sector requested.

Note that there is approx. 58GB of free hard drive space. The drive does not need defragmentation. I have repaired the mdb, which works fine. I cannot copy it to other directories or even within the same directory. It is 252,382KB in size.

Ideas?

The mdb size seems very large. Have you done compact and repair on it?

Can you back up (copy) the database to an online service such as
www.4shared.com? I am suggesting you back it up offsite, before doing anything to the local copy.

i think i would run chkdsk

do you have a backup of this, as it sounds like therei s a corruption

try opening a new dbs, and import everything

be careful, as you could lose the lot, from the sound of it.

Thank you, to each of you.

Yes, I did have a backup.
Anyway, I did a chkdsk and there were 2 corrupted sectors. One which had this file.
