I have an Access 2002 database that won't compact and repair. When I attempt to open it, it tells me that the database is corrupted and needs to be repaired. When I try to repair it, it gives me the following message: Could not find field 'Description'. Then, the next message states that the db cannot be repaired or isn't an Access db. I've downloaded the JetComp.exe tool, but it gives me the message: Error compacting database. I've tried creating a new database and then importing the objects from the corrupted one, but that failed as well. Any advise?

This may sound silly, but in the past when I have had that problem, I have emailed the database to someone.
They then emailed it back and it fixed it self. *shrugs*

I have no clue why that happens, but it has helped me in the past.

If someone can offer a reason why it worked for me that would be awsome.

Just an idea since most the other items you tried didn't work.

I think it could be due to a fresh copy of the database been sent back to you, some of the internal info is corrupt. If i was in this situation i would, start a new database and then import the tables and forms e.c.t.

Yeah, he tired that but said it didn't work.

Thanks for the reasoning with the email correction. I didn't think of it like that, but it does work usually.

Have you deleted a field called "Description" from your database, the other thing that i have come across is the in a field some were access in it wisdom has placed a strange entery into the table. If you can attach a copy of your database i will have a look for you.

Does the db compile?

Can you export the db objects?

Will the code at this link allow you to export the db objects? Export All Database Objects Into Text Files

Have you searched the forum to see if your question has already been asked and answered?

Have you saved a backup copy just incase your attempts to fix the db make things worse?

Seems this message maybe end as the user is not online and has not been for some time now.

Sorry. I had to do some other duties for a while.
For clarification, I'm not able to open the db at all; any attempt to open it gives me the error messages, then it closes.
I greatly appreciate the advice on this forum. I think I've tried about everything you've mentioned here. I'm not allowed to export it to others to view.
One thing I thought about was to see if Access 2003 could do anything with it. If I find a solution or some tool that will open it, I'll be sure to post it here. Any other advise would be welcomed.
Thanks.

Have you tried opening the Db while holding down the shift key ?

Yes. I've tried that. I'm hoping that Access 2003 will have a better repair tool and will open this db. I've seen some services that claim will repair your db for you. I wonder what kind of tool/software they're using to do that. Where's that backup when you need it :-)

The good people that host these forums offer a repair service.

I've had that problem before, that it wont repair itself. If you delete all of the data from all of the fields in the tables and then repair it, (make sure you export all the data first so you can put it all back) it should work. or at least it did for me.
