Hey guys, I have a problem I've been bashing my head against for a couple of days, hopefully you guys can help a newbie out:

I'm using Access 2013.

I have 2 tables with a many is to many relationship: Clients, and Projects. I connected them using the Client Projects Table, where I have the foreign keys from Client(Client ID) and Projects(Project ID) as fields, and ClientProject ID as the PK.So far, so good.

I also have another Table, Job Logs, which has a many-to-one relationship with Client Projects via ClientProjects ID as a Foreign Key.

Now I created a form for users to Add Job Logs. This has a cascading combo box where the user first chooses the Client ID(SelectClient), and this then filters the Select Project(SelectProject) Combo Box. I did this using [Forms]![Add Job Logs].[Selectclient] in the Criteria for the 2nd ComboBox, and I added a requery After Update Event in the SelectClient cb.

My problem is: I need the SelectProject Combo Box to display the Project Name, not the FK ClientProject ID, while still inputting the FK into the record.

You are telling readers HOW you have done something that doesn't satisfy your needs. I recommend you write a few lines in non-combobox, non Access (plain English) WHAT you are trying to do.

Here's a sample from RogersAccessLibrary to help with a description of WHAT you're trying to do.

ZYX Laboratories requires an employee tracking database. They want to track information about employees, the employee's job history, and their certifications. Employee information includes first name, middle initial, last name, social security number, address, city, state, zip, home phone, cell phone, email address. Job history would include job title, job description, pay grade, pay range, salary, and date of promotion. For certifications, they want certification type and date achieved.
An employee can have multiple jobs over time, (ie, Analyst, Sr. Analyst, QA Administrator). Employees can also earn certifications necessary for their job.

I have a combo box which technically works, but I want it to display the Project Name, not ClientProject ID. And I need to know if it's possible with the database as it is or if I have to change the design.

What is the RowSource, Bound Column, Column Count, Column Width of the ComboBox you have? Play with this information you will get what you want.. If you cannot get it right, give us the information we will let you know what you need to change..

Without seeing your application, or a clear understanding of your business, all I can say is
-What is the rowsource of the combo?
-What is the format (width of the fields involved)?
-What is the bound column?

Here's info on comboboxes.

Good luck.

Update::: HI Paul, seems we're thinking along the same line.
