Check boxes display differently on different machines

Hopefully this is an easy one:

I have a basic form that includes check boxes. All works well. But on my (Windows 8) machine, the check boxes display as big ugly black squares. If I open the db from any another machine (Windows 7), check boxes display as I'm used to with a nice outline and bluey tinge to the middle if not set! All machines have Access 2013 on them.

Is this a Windows thing or Access issue? How can I get fix/get around it?

Thanks
Martyn

I Don't Know... but what I'd try first is:-

Open:-
>>>File
>>>Options
>>>Current Database
Find the Check Box
>>>"Use Windows Themed controls on Forms
and "Check It"

OK, I've tried that, makes no difference when ticked, when unticked it looks even worse.

Any other ideas?

Screen grabs showing the checkboxes that are displaying differently on my Windows 8 Machine.

Many thanks
Martyn

The second picture looks like it is shown in a table/query, are you sure it is the same database?
I have never experienced that MS-Access can change appearance in the manner shown by itself.
Try to create a new form and insert some check boxes, how do they look?
Could you show a printscreen of the form in design view, (both cases)?

the square box is where the control has not been assigned a value - try setting the control a default value of false
