Coronavirus - are we all doomed?

but since he's got me on ignore, he won't be seeing this message.

I changed my mind and un-ingord you. For three reasons.
  1. I thought it's kind of being selfish not to hear different opinions and way of thinking.
  2. I didn't see your posts while ignoring you, but there was a lot of replies to your posts from other members that made no sense. Because I didn't know what are they replying to. And it made me put @The_Doc_Man and a lot more of others too in my ignore list. The list were growing too long and I was missing a lot of posts from a lot of members. I thought it's simpler not to read the whole water cooler and concentrate on technical areas.
I'm very busy with my job recently. I will post a thread for the whole third reason. But it won't be until a week or two later.

743 deaths in Italy yesterday. This is FAR from being under control.

@NauticalGent The death data can be a bit misleading regarding the trends. I think there is a 21 day lag between the shutdown and reduction in deaths. Let me explain. The average time from infection to death is 21 days. So, if they shut down the country 20 days ago, you would still see rising deaths. After day 21, it would start to fall, all in theory of course. Do you know the date that they shut everything down over there?

The best way to see if things are improving is to look at the Daily New Cases rate. This shows if the infections are reducing or not.

You can see that those have started to fall. That is a positive sign.

The death rate should fall approximately 2 weeks after the Daily New Cases rate falls, since it takes on average 2 weeks to die since onset of symptoms.

I hope that helps give some clarity on the situation over there, or how to calculate the situation anywhere. Bear in mind that in places like the UK, we are very short of testing kits so the true scale of the numbers infected is harder to know, but at least with this method you can spot the trends.

The rate of testing will vary and not be in parallel to the rise in the number of cases. The real number of cases is more like 10x what the public tested figure is.

do u guys realize that this thread is 21 pages long now? WOW.

And jon, im getting seriously annoyed by you. Do u know why?

i wasn't talking about you, my good friend. It seems as though Jon won't say anything. that's fine.
Irrespective of what you think. I certainly am not your 'my good friend'. It sounds like a derogatory term. In fact, I don't want to converse with you any more.
Can we now get this thread back on track? If you have nothing constructive to say, then shut your big Yankee mouth. Nobody is interested.

Just for clarity, Adam, I don't use the Ignore button. But I have consciously chosen to minimize my responses to you. I am tired of your attitude. You have distracted me once too often. I will not curse you or call you names. I will respond if and when you commit factual errors in some other thread. But otherwise, go have fun. Preferably elsewhere.

What brought that on Richard? I wasn't even talking to you.

I mentioned a while back that I was feeling ill after someone coughed close to me on the tube, well actually I was properly ill after that for about 12 days, with a fever and a cough and generally feeling tired all the time. I did have a tight chest but no real breathing difficulties, I am starting to wonder if I did actually catch the corona virus, now that they are saying it could have been in the UK since Jan.

I am going to try and have one of the new anti body tests when they are available.

I have also signed up for the NHS Volunteer responder service, which is a way that normal people can help the health service by delivering food and medicine to people who are self isolating. It is totally safe, you are not coming in contact with people, you drop food at their door move away and let them come out and pick it up, they drop the money on the doorstep and after they are gone you pick up the money, sanitise it, santise yourself and put the money in a sealed bag.

I am quite excited about it, it will be good to help out others and quite frankly it will be good to get out the house with a legitimate reason.

Glad you won your personal battle and it is good to hear/read things like this. People helping people...we seem to have gotten away from that.

Richard,

I find it quite interesting that all of this is happening at once:

=> the flu
=> the virus
=> allergy season

I have been feeling run down for about a week now, but more than likely that is because I don't sleep very much. I have a soar throat as well and a cough. but NO, it's not the virus. I have heard though, that if you do contract the virus and your immune system is fine, it leaves your body within 3 weeks or so. Is that true? I wouldn't know, as I don't watch the news.

I think you need a vacation. I hear cruises are really cheap at the moment.
