I have split my db into a front end and back end and when I make a copy of both DB's onto a CD and try opening the DB from the CD, I get the following error:

Could not find file C:\Documents and Settings...mdb

It is looking for the back end db in the original location.
I've copied both the front end and back end to the CD.

What step am I doing wrong?

Dawn.

You wont be able to update the Db as when it is burnt to a CD it becomes read only.

You can update the path to the Db by selecting Tools - Database Utilities - Linked Table Manager

Or a simpler way is to right click somewhere in the database window on the tables window and select link tables.

Once again you may get a message saying that the Db is read only or something of the sort.

Are you putting the tables in the same location???

Basically the FE stores a path to where the BE is and if you change that path the FE will not know where the data is... To remedy this either put the BE in the same place on a different machine as where you stored it on the machine it was created on or (probably the best solution) simply relink the FE to the BE when you save the DB (Boss it right though as you'll have to uncheck reado only on the db when you save it on the new machine as anything on a CD becomes read only....

Zip it up before you burn it to CD. Then extract the db from the zip file to your computer. Eliminates the read only problem and you will not have to relink the tables if the destination is the same location as where you burned it from.

Using a thumbnail drive is a lot easier to use if the PCs have easy access to USB ports. Windows XP PCs recognize most thumbnail drives without having to install any drivers for the thumbnail drive. Thumbnail drives are so cheap now that you can find 128 MB drives for about fifty bucks.
