I'm just getting started with Access 2007 and I love it. I have a crush on relational databases.

However, I am trying to re-create a database someone built in Access 2002. I can do queries and reports - that part is fine - but she had set up a sort of "front page" where people could click on various options like Reports. Once they did that, they could click on "Sort by user" and a little window would pop up asking for the user name to sort by. It's all very user friendly - but it's locked down so much I can't see any code or even the tables.

Basically what I'm curious about is - what is that sort of user interface called where I can create buttons to lead to other pages and then they can enter text to search by? If I know what it is I can search here and elsewhere for it, but I don't even know what to look for!

Any help would be appreciated! :D

Welcome to the newsgroups.

First, you should not have to recreate the database. You should be able to open it and it should work as it did in Access 2002.

Try setting the path to the location of that database as a "Trusted Location". Click on the "Office Button" and then click the "Access Options" button at the lower right of that menu. The "Access Options" form will be displayed. Click on the "Trust Center" option in the left pane. Then click on the "Trust Center Settings ..." button.

Click on the "Trusted Locations" option in the left pane. Click the "Add New Location" button and add the path to the database you want to open and use.

Next, click on the "Macro Settings" and select the last option from the options group.

Close the Access Options window. You will be prompted that you will have to close your database before your changes will take effect. Close and reopen the database and it should work as it did in 2002.

There is no Access Options - all I get is "Close Database" and "Exit Access". I know what you mean, because it's there in every other database, but she managed to get it to go away.

Part of it is that I'll be editing what is there - they want more options and new fields, so I don't mind re-creating it (plus, if I'll be maintaining it, I'd like to understand it well), but I have no idea how to create the user interface she did.

Try opening your database while holding down the Shift key. Hold the Shift key down until it opens. See if you have other options availabel now.

If you can post a copy of the app we may be able to unlock it for you. It's up to you.

You are AWESOME! Thank you! :D

*scampers off to play in the code*

You spoiled my fun. Was going to do that then pretend I had done something incredibly difficult to gain access to the code. Bo ho ho

Oh, sorry I stole your thunder. Now I see where I am missing the boat. I have to really watch it from now on. LOL
