Question Creating Distinct Transactions

Hi All

I have a database for tracking jobs & producing invoices. The 'static data' is of course linked to each invoice.

I need to create distinct transactions for each invoice, so that if the static data changes, such as rates of charge, it will not automatically update any history, where a historic rate has been charged.

My current thinking is that I create a table and effectively archive all invoices that have been created, as they are produced.

I would be glad and grateful for any suggestions.

The 'static data' is of course linked to each invoice.

Why ?

as Spike says, these fields should not be linked FK id's but values inserted at the time of invoice creation.

I guess I need to create the equivalent of an 'orders' table to handle each invoice, so that when, for example, a rate of charge changes, it will not change any underlying data on an already issued invoice?

Do you think I'm on the right track?
